Liked Enclave, but definitely did not love (especially not as much as Divergent or The Hunger Games). It had a very interesting concept that was a cross between Divergent and City of Ember. The heroine, Deuce, was an interesting character that reminded me of Katniss Everdeen because I neither loved her nor hated her. She tries hard to impress and sometimes makes decisions that she immediately regrets.
I wish there was more romantic growth between Deuce and Fade in this first book. I felt that the book was meant to be a first in a series so it was almost as if the story didn't reach full circle in the end and I was disappointed that there was no more to read.
All in all this book definitely got me going and kept me reading nonstop until the end!

This was a good book not a great book. It's a little more than predictable (again with the two love interests!!), a little less than mysterious, and overall, I've seen the themes and action done better elsewhere: namely [b:The Hunger Games|2767052|The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)|Suzanne Collins|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1293504845s/2767052.jpg|2792775], The Maze Runner trilogy, [b:Rot & Ruin|9314359|Rot & Ruin|Jonathan Maberry|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1284640139s/9314359.jpg|7443037], [b:Ashes|7903871|Ashes |Ilsa J. Having said that, if YA dystopia is your thing than this is a must-read. The underground scenes are creepy as are "the Freaks" who hunt the subway tunnels ready to rip and tear your flesh. This is believable world-building and Deuce and Fade shine as warrior heroes. The series definitely shows promise and I will be coming back for more.

4-4.5 stars. this was an easy read. the tone was dire like most apocalyptic novels, but managed to still be relatable.

Here we have a super tough girl named Deuce, after her naming. This story is dystopia but not in the way you expect. I think of course you can still compare it to other dystopia and find similarities but I don't really ponder on that too much. You know how some compare everything to star wars, harry potter, pride and prejudice, twilight, and now the hunger games, etc.
The story about a girl living in a society where the elders are 30 years old and the rules are strict. There are three things you can be: a Breeder, Hunter, or Builder. Deuce is a going to be a hunter and the darn best one there is. The setting is in the tunnels post-apocalypse and I could feel it, the tunnels are an intricate part of their way of life.
Deuce is an interesting character, she is tough, practical, and has a great need to prove that she belongs with the hunters. There is a guy named Fade and he of course has a dark past. They are partnered up to kill as many freaks as possible, as well as feed the brats. I did not know freaks were supposed to be zombies in the beginning, for some reason I thought that they were wolverine/human type beasts.
Something that I never get about girls who are supposed to be good at fighting is that they always mention how the girl has to compensate strength with speed. I'm kind of short and somehow I'm usually the slowest walker, runner, or slowest whatever you can think of, so I wonder about the merit to this.
A tad gruesome but really want to read the next one.

The writing and concept of this book were good, but the execution left me depressed. Everything about this world is either hard and harsh or confusing for the main character. Even the good things aren't fully experienced by her it seems because she is so analytical about them. And the ending was lacking substantially in resolution. I know there is another book but there didn't seem to be a good resolution for the first one.
