There are so many versions of the story of Cinderella, that the story managed to surprise me, because it was a version that I didn't know yet. I had some elements from all the other different versions that I do know and do love, but I don't think this was the most interesting version of the tale I've read. But you know, it's still Cinderella and no matter what version you'll give me and what tale you'll tell me and what twisting you do, I will always end up loving it.

And this book wasn't very different. Although it's not my favourite version of the tale, it was still a very nice read and I especially loved the little poem at the very end, with the moral of the story and the lessons we could learn from this tale. And I also loved the fact that Cinderella, once more, never asks for a prince to save her. She just wants to go to the ball.

But, what makes this book very special is the artwork. I really love this style and the colours are so beautiful and mesmerising and I love how the words and the artwork really form one piece of art. The words are just as important as the artwork, but also the other way round. The artwork is also just as important as the words.

I secretly hope that there will be more editions like this. It would make a perfect and lovely collection.

Read this for a class - interesting to compare this one to the Grimm brothers version.

This has been rejected so often by princess-loving kiddos, I feel like I already have a sympathetic relationship with this book. Poor thing rarely gets read these days. It's too bad, too, because it's a great version of the fairytale - a good long read with plenty of detail and voice. The line drawn illustrations don't grab students, but on close examination they are expressive and done in a floaty style that suits the story. I'm filing this under "give it a chance" and will try it as a read aloud to see if I can get some of my Disney-obsessed girls to try it.

I love the colors of the illustrations. It is almost like the pictures are meant to be part of a dream. I especially like Cinderella's dress, because it is tinged with pink in the book and not blue like in the Disney movie.
