4.0
I feel like objectively, maybe this is 3.5 stars, but my personal enjoyment came out to 4 stars, so I'm going with that.
I hadn't read from John Scalzi before, and this was 100% taking a chance because of the cover. I wouldn't have made the jump without the cats and dolphins, and I'm not certain my enjoyment would have been as high without them. The first half of the book felt a bit repetitive in its pattern of "Charlie learns about the nth new absurdity of the situation, and STILL doesn't manage to quite understand it" but the second half has more action, twists, and fun.
There were many laugh-out-loud moments for me. Overall, it's a fun and fluffy read.
