3.5 rounded up. Love the concept of this series and the first book was amazing but this was mostly filler.
The good
✔️I love a good villain and Erida and Taristan are definitely that.
✔️I really enjoyed the relationship between Sorasa and Dom and by the end these were really the only two POVs I wanted to read. My favorite scene in the book is when they fight the Amhara assassins together and their interaction following
✔️ I enjoyed the action when it finally came around
Now the bad...
❌ There needed to be more dialogue
❌ There was little to no character development. With all of the lengthy traveling you’d think maybe we’d get more meaningful conversations. But no.
❌ So damn repetitive. Every time we switched POVs it’s like we had to start all over from SQUARE ONE. Andry is a squire and sometimes a knight; Dom is immortal, the son of Glorian lost LIKE STOP TELLING ME THIS; Sorasa is the assassin and she has tattoos. Sigil is gigantic. WE GET IT. I know who they are by now in book 2, Victoria, please move on.
❌ Andry and Corayne are cringe. This budding relationship feels forced and mere convenience. I need it gone
Anyways. I enjoyed it but was happy when it ended. I’ll probably read book 3 when it comes out.

Mixed emotions on this book. For me there was not enough action and I found myself only wanting to read certain characters’ POVs. Some of the main characters bored me. The pace picked up at the end and definitely left on a cliff hanger. I would say this was a filler book to be honest and it didn’t need to be as long as it was.
