Technically this should probably have been one star. The Granta recommendation. The cover (yes I was snowed by that one). The inside flap description. The numerous glowing reviews. And ultimately I didn't like it. And that's one star on this website. I cobbled together the rest of these variables and the fact that it was written well and added a meager piece of a star that bumped it to two. But honestly the story was boring, completely disjointed and nonsensical for the first 2/3 of the book, and I managed one chuckle during the scene with the dog and the body parts. But overall a major disappointment.

If you're not a fan of dry, dark humour, then this book is most definitely not for you!

This was such a great read, and I'm so glad that I went into it without knowing the premise of the book.
It was such an unexpectedly absurd and gloriously dark ride.

This book is creatively gruesome and definitely does not lack originality. At times it had me covering my mouth or making faces to express its sheer grossness. It is incredibly riveting, and I found myself saying "Just one more chapter" at insane hours. If you're into strange and eerie fairytales about suicide, cannibalism, and love, then check this book out.

I really enjoyed this book, although at some points it was slightly too sick for me! Dan Rhodes is a very original writer and I look forward to reading some more of his work. Funny moments in the book made me laugh out loud! Recommended!

This book is creepy as fuck and likely not for everyone. But I loved it.
