Daredevil origin that's a bit heavy on narration and internal dialog. The beauty of comics is that readers don't need everything spelled out because anyone with 2 eyes can see what's happening. Still, the story is exciting and John Romita Jr.'s art is on point.

Been after this one a while. Even before I started on this journey through comics / trade paperbacks and graphic novels... here’s my thoughts.
I can see glimpses of what Miller would go on to do in Sin City here… I also feel that the story was strong enough without the need for the cameos… and I was a bit (bit) disappointed at the end. I mean, those cameos and the introduction of Nuke kinda derailed it a little... Perhaps I needed to get into some other Daredevil before approaching it… but, I love the character and there was so much of this that was absolutely exceptional.
Also, the art from Mazzucchelli is excellent. I’ll talk about that stuff some more some other day.

Yeah I'm interested in this character now. Great backstory and I'm totally going to read more when the library has it. A bit too violent for my tastes but it seems like that will be a character flaw/struggle.

This is genuinely a great book. I started reading it mostly to see where the recent Netflix series got its inspiration from, and while it's certainly entertaining to see how various elements of this series were adapted to the television medium, the story certainly holds up on its own and even makes me curious to go back and continue reading Frank Miller's Daredevil run to see what he was foreshadowing in this book. I am generally not a huge Daredevil fan. I love what Bendis did, but most of the other stuff hasn't grabbed me. But I love how this book highlights Daredevil's position as Marvel's Batman figure: the dark, brooding hero with anger management issues and a passion for helping the common people.
I should also point out that I generally hate John Romita Jr.'s art these days, but for this story it fits and actually looks pretty great. I usually have a big problem with "classic" stories because I hate the art and wordy narration, but the fact that I didn't mind either in this story - in fact I appreciated it! - is testament to how good this story actually is.
