ouch but like in a good way

I think if I read this in middle or high school I would’ve rated it higher.

I think the ending is kind of bittersweet but also unnecessarily sad. Like I don’t understand what the purpose of X’s death was nor do I feel like that was what the book was building to.

still was a good listen (audiobook) and would recommend if you’re okay with not having a HEA

Evie doesn’t believe love can last after her parents divorce and she finds out her dad cheated on her mom. She even starts to have visions of how relationships form, evolve, and eventually end. Chance leads her to a dance studio where she meets X, a boy who lives every day like it’s his last and Evie can’t help but let down her guard just enough that he sneaks into her heart.

This delightful take on cynicism surrounding love and learning to enjoy the journey rather than fear the outcome put me through so many emotions- joy, worry, sadness, excitement, frustration, and on and on. It would make a perfect teen rom-com.

By the end I wanted to cry. That was really special. These past two years have been hard and focusing on the here and now is harder. Especially when the here and now is the worst something has ever been. But this book was a beautiful reminder that that’s all you have. Once it’s past the here and now it’s just a memory.

I love the main couple and there is an interesting element involved that makes it more than a standard YA romance. It explores themes of moving on from high school and into a new, more adult, and scarier phase of life and explored these themes quite well. I will say there was a twist at the end that lost me a little, but it built up enough goodwill in the first half of the book. Content warnings will have spoilers, so be warned.

Good read, very fun and light-hearted. Not too plot-driven.
the ending is sort of bittersweet

i enjoyed the whole cast of characters and their individual journeys. I liked how there was a clear ongoing struggle with the mc's thoughts and actions
the whole concept of this book was really cool, esp with the magic aspect in it
left lots of questions, def will be philosophical and existential
