This tale was chock full of horror tropes. Nothing original, and not scary. Fun and entertaining perhaps, but not scary. It was not poorly written but was not literary book like a Steinbeck or Faulkner.

A really fun and spooky read.
A classical haunting house story with a couple of twists that gave it a fresh feeling.
Adrienne is a great character, a lonely woman willing to start anew in a new place, longing for friendship and with Wolfgang the cat as her only companion. How can you not love her?
The town is curious about her grand-aunt and the house that now is hers but they are welcoming, which is a nice deviation from haunting houses stories, too, and people is willing to help her from the beginning. I really liked that.
The story is entertaining, spooky for moments, and with a great ending. And Eva Kaminsky does a great job with the narration.

Not a fan of this one unfortunately. Firstly, since it's called "The Haunting of Ashburn House", I was expecting it to be a story about ghosts or at least demons. Instead, it's more of a weird zombie story. Definitely unique it that sense, but I feel like it's marketed wrong. Secondly, I wasn't a fan of the protagonist. I found her quite dumb and it was hard for me to take her seriously. Her inner thoughts definitely didn't help with that. Her actions at times, also, didn't make sense. Thirdly, I didn't find it all that scary. It starts getting creepy on Chapter 30, which is basically 2/3 of the way through the book. The last third of it was the only one I semi-enjoyed, which is why it's getting 2 stars from me.

This is the first real horror book I’ve read and I loved it. I even audibly gasped at one of the spooky parts!
This was an intense thriller horror and the scary scenes were written so well, I was truly afraid. And they didn’t utilize a lot of gore and violence to get the scare across, which I like.
