Suspense/thriller with a side of romance. Lots of twists in the Investigation of a serial killer. The crimes (murders, kidnapping, sexual assault) are off-page, though the discovery of dead bodies is descriptive.

FBI agent Snow is a former child prodigy who grew up to be a profiler and agent with off-the-chart abilities to remember details but not relate well to humans. Not sure if she is purposefully written as a neuro-divergent character or just reads like one? Her inner monologue includes multiple references to trying to relate to emotion and dialogue between characters is stilted.

I am a pretty faithful Zanetti fan but this really felt like something very different! Laurel Snow is wonderfully nuanced and fascinating - brilliant and also aware of her flaws. (Her own mysterious past is a great storyline in itself!) I also really like Huck Rivers though! He is a growly, grumpy, loner with his own issues that he freely admits and is very clear about his needs in a relationship - lord I love some good communication!

I am fascinated where this found family series goes with the ongoing mysteries and character arcs! I don't usually settle for HFN and series that follow one couple for more than one book but I am very hooked and can't wait to see what happens next.

TLDR Review
Stars: Five Stars
Steam: About two - one scene, but lots of sexual tension and awareness
Tropes: slow burn romance, everyone is grumpy, catch a killer
Theme Song: Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads
For Fans Of: Alexandra Ivy Books, murder podcasts
Subgenre: Contemporary romance - suspense
CW/ TW: bloodshed and violence on the page, serial killers, references to religion, rape, PTSD, death

Thank you to the author and publisher for my complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
