Really enjoyed this. The author does a very good job of capturing what it's like being a non-trad student, including the doubts and imposter syndrome. There were times when I wanted to shake Lily but I think it's because her anxiety was impairing her thinking and reactions. Oh yeah: I listened on audio and absolutely hated the accent used for Beth.

This is not a second chance romance but a women’s fiction centered on self growth.
The romance subplot failed and the love interest is a total dud. There was no chemistry and I was annoyed when he showed up. No purpose to him or romance in this book.
And the overall plot wasn’t believable whatsoever… why are we swimming? There was a lot of explaining of thoughts and actions but they weren’t written in an engaging way. The pacing was off too.
Overall I didn’t really enjoy this and I’m giving it 1.75 stars

I didn’t give a hoot about her, her book, her job, or her relationships.

Not, like, bad, but I think the front half was really slow and the back half was really rushed. Good idea, ok execution.

Pros:
-A story of self empowerment
-Touched on imposter syndrome

Cons:
-This is not a romance. The love interest was tragically born without a personality and the romance part of the book took maybe 7% of the story
-The story arcs were not well balanced

Something else that really bothered me but isn't something that I'm factoring into my rating:
-I listened to the audiobook and the voice that the narrator chose for Mia, the best friend with a large part of the story, sounded like a muppet that smokes 6 packs a day. It was a really odd choice.

Maybe 2.5 stars? I didn’t hate it the story, but the storyline between the two main characters was not very compelling. The conflict and resolution felt overly simplified, which impacted my overall feeling on the book. It just wasn’t as strong as I had hoped.

I will say that I did appreciate her perspective as a Korean-American woman. Very, very cool to learn more about that.
