Humor? Not one bit!! Bizarre story line and didn’t laugh once. Just plain dumb.

This book was received as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was, honestly, really enjoyable! I don't read a ton of mystery, but this fell into my lap out of nowhere and I decided to give it a shot. It feels interesting, like a bunch of short stories cobbled together with an overarching plot, and I like that. It didn't feel overwhelming with characters, and the wittiness of everyone kept the pace quick and the dialogue refreshing.
The story was quick, but not lacking in detail or explanation, and nothing felt like it was stopping for too long. I want more, but not because there was a lack of development and a sequel is necessary, but just because you want more from these characters. You want to see them grow.
The fact that there were (technically) three different "cases" throughout the book didn't feel overwhelming somehow, either, and everything actually made sense. Well, except for the werewolves. ;)

shirleytupperfreeman's review
I loved Smith's new Swedish philosophizing detective, Ulf Varg. While tongue remains firmly in cheek, Smith creates very human characters who lean toward doing the right thing while solving unusual crimes of a 'sensitive' nature. Detective Varg offers keen, and witty, observations about Swedish culture, relationships and life.
