This book is a love triangle between Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Bridgerton. I was constantly on the edge of my seat and I loved the blending of worlds and time periods.

After I finished the book I tried to look up fan art or theories on Tumblr and Twitter only to find…. a ghost town.

Then I realized that I had gotten an early copy through Illumincrate, and thats when I knew I had to do my part and get my friends and loved ones to read this so we could obsess about it together.
I even recommended it to my dad!!! (He loves sci-fi, but still- it’s daunting to recommend a book to your dad).

This book centers black and queer stories in a way that more books really should, because it was beautiful, epic, and expertly crafted.

Speaking of epic, the book is long- but you should treasure that and take your time while reading it to soak up all the delicious details.

There is joy in every chapter of this book, and I don’t mean the characters joy, because they go through some crazy things… but the author Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson clearly had such fun building this world and concocting this story, that I was immediately along for the ride.

I honestly feel that if this series continues in this fashion, it will be the next Harry Potter/Hunger Games/Percy Jackson phenomenon. It was vibrant, it was poignant. While I was reading it I could see the future film version, and it was spectacular.

I had such a fun time reading this book, and I look forward to the rest of the series! Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. (Then message me about it because I am enamored and I must talk with someone about it!)

The writing is so sloppy. Way too much exposition - what ever happened to "show, don't tell"? The characters feel very crudely drawn

I thoroughly enjoyed this sci fi - fantasy amalgamation.
This has time travel, space travel, the chosen one, found family, romance, and adventure. It is set mainly between two time periods; the distant future in space and Regency London.
I loved Asha and Obi's friendship and how it developed into them being family.
I also found the mechanics of the time travel really interesting.
I'm interested to find out how the story plays out, especially as Esmie dropped some hints regarding book 2 on her book tour earlier in the year.

3.75⭐️ Not sure how I feel about this book at the moment. Really well written, loved the characters, the world building, the different time periods and relationships but it just didn’t grip me how I thought it would. Not sure I’ve got the hype with this… maybe it will grow on me…I think it will

UPDATE- I have reflected im upping my star rating to 4, I needed time to review this one I think

There is too much stuff going on in this book for any of it to be done well. This story purports itself to be a Regency romance and a found-family space opera all in one, but in reality the story is nonsensical, the characters are very poorly fleshed out and their relationships and "achievements" all feel very unearned. In reading the dustcover and the acknowledgements, the author mentions multiple times how this book was begun when she was 16 years old, and was continued between classes over the next 2 years. This book was written by a teenager and it shows; I appreciate the effort and I hope the author continues to learn, grow and improve her craft, but this was overall an extremely shallow and frustrating read. At the end of the book, the main trio of characters is broken up before they reach what I would have expected to be the climax of the story. Nothing is "wrapped up" at all, and the story ends on the continuation of a romance that is not developed during the narrative and is seemingly based on very little. I don't care about that plotline at all because the characters are separated during nearly the entire run of the story, and therefore we as readers didn't get a chance to understand their relationship, despite the fact that it's allegedly so profound. It's very frustrating that the author abandoned the main plotline of the story to end there during what felt like the rising action of the overall narrative. It doesn't even make sense to stop at this point if the author continues into a series, because nothing was achieved during the whole course of the first book anyway, so I don't feel that the author is skilled enough to write a satisfying continuation. I will not continue reading this series and I would not recommend it.
