Wren is a bicycle delivery person in Seattle. One of her favorite customers is the hip artist Gregori Ivanov who is well known for his bad boy ways. But she thinks that taking a shot at a relationship with this man is well worth the risk.
I read this novella after the second one in the series. It would have really helped to read this one first as we get to see more of why Wren and Gregori are together.

Reading about art student Wren and her aspiring career was quite entertaining. She is a woman that knows what she wants, and what she doesn’t want. And best of all- she knows how to get it. Gregori, the down-to-earth, bad boy artist is the object of lust in this books and it stands to reason why. He is sexy, smart, and deep. His intimacy issues can be rather annoying and predictable at times, but Wren, being the saucy little number she is, spices things up a bit.

Wren also has her cousin, Kelsey and best friend/room mate, Zoe. The relationships between the three ladies are very typical of the modern, strong and supportive girl friend relationships.

Most of the characters in “Cake” are well developed and the story even goes into a small flashback of family history for Wren and Gregori.

This book is a short read of only 87 pages; I was able to get through 50% of the book in one night. The anticipation to the sex scenes kept me turning each page. By far the best part of “Cake” was the sultry and steamy sex scenes. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat while reading the play-by-play details of how skilled and tender Gregori could be.

Although this book is a great quick read to entertain you to the fullest I didn’t feel an overwhelming connection to the story. I felt that it could have been more developed and of course less rushed, if it were longer. The characters while entertaining, were not very interesting. As days turned to weeks in “Cake” you were able to predict what may possibly happen next. However, I think Lauren Dane is very talented as a writer and would read some of her other work. In the context of the story, it works, I suppose, but if the gender roles had been reversed there are aspects to this story that would be creepy. Is someone says no about a relationship (even if it seems like that's not what they need) then the other person should not show up in their hotel room all the way across the country. I realize that it's supposed to be a romantic grand gesture, but the more I think on it, the less comfortable I am.

Very basic and simple plot. Not anything overly special, but not bad either. I guess you could say it was sweet. A simple read if you're bored and in the mood for a quick story.

I really love Lauren Dane's erotic contemporaries. I've followed the Brown Siblings for two years now and am eagerly awaiting book six. When I saw this one popping up on NetGalley I snatched it up. The premise was intriguing and the cover was hot!

Wren, a messenger/graphic artist is totally hung up on a sexy sculptor named Gregori. Gregori is at the top of his game artistically and has made it in the industry. The only thing holding him back is his failed marriage and his unwillingness to commit to a woman. As Wren and Gregori grow closer and closer, they have to decide if a relationship is something they can handle. Can Gregori let go of his failed marriage and can Wren make him see she's the woman for him?

I really loved both characters. Gregori was the perfect combo of sexy-hot artist and brooding rich guy. He owned who he was and didn't apologize but was secretly miserable. At the same time Wren was an interesting woman who wanted to make it on her own but knew what she wanted. She wanted Gregori and she wasn't about to hold back.

The sex scenes were scorchers and the moments Gregori and Wren spent together were equally spicy-hot and adorable. I loved how they were in their non-sexual romantic moments. Wren fought for Gregori with everything she had. She wanted him, she owned it, and she made it happen. She wasn't about to let her slice of cake vanish.

My only hang-up was over Gregori contributing nothing to the actual love story. He screwed up, he didn't grovel. He made the mistake and he got the girl. Wren was the one who made everything happen. While I like to see things flipped on their head it was disappointing when Gregori was the one who screwed up. I really hate it when the person who didn't screw up does all the work.

This was not the flagship for the line of Cosmo Red Hot Reads but it certainly was red hot. I really
wish it had been longer since I really liked Gregori and Wren. I often fall in love with the characters in novellas and then it ends so quickly.

This was worth the free read but I would wait for a sale before picking it up. 1.99 seems like a sweet spot for these books.

If you want something quick to read with plenty of character chemistry and hot sex, then 'Cake' is the story of you.
Right from the go this story is on fire. Cake follows art student Wren, whose job is to deliver parcels around town. Her last stop is always Gregori Ivanov's studio, who is a bit of a rock star of the art world. She desires him so much and nothing can stop her from getting what she wants.
Twists and turns are bound to happen on the way to finding love, but nothing to stop Wren from going after the man she loves.

3.5 stars. "Cake" is a novella by Lauren Dane. This is a fun little story about Wren, a art student, and Gregori, the mysterious Russian artist who doesn't want to get in too deep. This is the second Cosmo Red Hot Reads by Harlequin book that I've read and I've really enjoyed these books. They're short but so much fun!

This novella is a quick read but it packs a romantic punch. It has a great love story. There was also a lot of hotness. This is the kind of book that you read when you need a quick pick me up.

Gregori was a really fantastic hero. He had a little bit of everything that I like in a romantic hero. He's strong and fascinating. He's easy on the eyes and oh yeah, he has a really hot accent (I love, love, love Russian accents).

I liked Wren and Gregori together but I feel like you got to know Gregori much better. I didn't not like Wren but I didn't really feel you really got to know her all that well.

Overall, this was a really fun book!
