This book was a fun, quick, romp through Riverdale while it is being ravanged by an unknown predator dubbed "the Riverdale Ripper." As a long-time fan of the Archie comics, this book perfectly blends the Archie horror comics and the newer Riverdale series for a great story to keep you invested.

When Dilton Dooley's dismembered body is found, the Riverdale residents suspect a serial killer. The night before Jughead had a strange dream about a creature tearing into Dilton. Could Jughead be the one responsible for the murder and if so how? This is an adaptation of Jughead: The Hunger graphic novel. It shifts between the viewpoints of Jughead, Betty, and Archie. While readers spend a lot of time in the thoughts of these three, if you are familiar with Archie Comics (as opposed to the Riverdale television series) the book doesn't veer too much away from the familiar characterizations despite the attempt at creating alternate circumstances for these characters. Jughead may be a dangerous werewolf but nothing in this book pushes the boundaries of a typical Archie comics except for the gore. Those who expect the Riverdale version of the characters will be disappointed, Archie Comics fans may enjoy the somewhat alternate take of these characters. Readers of R. L. Stine's Fear Street series may want to give this a read.

This was SUCH a fun read. Caleb takes a comic which I thought was fine at best and turned it into something special.

Archie is a great universe to overlay a horror setting as all of the common tropes are built into the cast perfectly and Roehrig uses our pre-existing knowledge of these characters to switch those tropes up a bit.

The writing is exceptionally good at presenting atmosphere having some legitimately creepy set pieces.

Quick, delightful little horror book.

This is a very fun book. I was a bit worried because I had read Jughead, The Hunger before this and thought this was just going to be a novelization of the graphic novel.
It definitely was not. The basic premise is the same but it takes things in a different way. It kept me guessing and enthralled with the story.

This was so much fun! A perfect read for this time of year and in my opinion a lot better than the TV adaptation novel (although I've only read one of those so far.)

I loved the bit where Archie realised how much he takes things like being able to walk in the dark for granted, when the women in his life do it in fear. A little snippet on sexism I wasn't expecting but fitted in nicely without being forced.

Although this novel is based on the comics, so fans of the show should expect some differences, I'd still recommend it.

I look forward to getting the next one!
