“ ‘One minute a general, the next minute a sheet-metal worker.’ Wedge smiled at him. ‘That’s life in the armed forces.’ “
➡️ linear timeline
👥POV: multiple first person
🐎 Pace: fast
💭: We embark on book 7 of the x-wing Star Wars series.
What I liked:
- Lots of Solo and Chewie in this book
- Discusses mental health and dealing with trauma
- Droid adventures
- Kolot
What I wasn’t a fan of
- I wanted one of the storylines to go in a different direction than it did but that’s personal preference
- The romantic subplot was awkward at some moments
- The storyline with Zsinj didn’t feel satisfying
Overall, I still enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to reading the next installment! I’m also likely going to detour into The Courtship of Princess Leia as it points towards at the end of this book.
⚠️ grief, survivor’s guilt, violence

Solo Command is book 7 of the X-Wing series, and makes another exciting addition to the series. However, it is also the end of the Wraith Squadron trilogy, and I feel like it didn’t wrap up enough in terms of plot and characters. I know books like The Courtship of Princess Leia continue the story of Zsinj, and we have another Wraith Squadron book later down the line, but I was hoping for a satisfying conclusion as this is always considered a ‘trilogy’.
Within this book our main characters are Lara Notsil and Myn Donos. I was excited to continue Lara’s story after reading the last book, and I was gripped to see which side she would fall on, and hopefully this isn’t the last we see of her. I also found Myn to be an interesting character, seeing how his mental health has been affected by his experiences and how he manages to overcome that. I didn’t feel like the chemistry between them was enough to validate a romance between them, but maybe it’ll be expanded upon in later novels.
This will make a fine addition to my collection of X-Wing books!

It is so so hard for me to be objective in my ratings of these books.
For years, these books were my childhood.
From the time I was in late Elementary school up until I graduated High School I would read and reread these books. There are some legitimately great books in the Star Wars legends universe, and some completely garbage books. I've been re-reading all the post-ROTJ books lately in an attempt to plug in some of the holes of books that I never read and also for a solid trip down memory lane. If you ask almost any fan which Star Wars books to read they will recommend the original Thrawn trilogy. I would do the same but I would also highly recommend the X-Wing books. They're great fun and give a good glimpse into the immediate political events after ROTJ which form the basis of much of what happens in the following years for the rest of the Legends timeline.
