i loved this book, and the fact that i managed guess the ending almost bang on. jonah
impersonating JT was the best plot twist ever and gave us a cute ship ♥️

thoughts while reading

p15: it's giving inheritance games
p32: sheesh that's an awkward first meeting to say the least
p80: AH!
REAL JONAH MUST BE ALLERGIC TO SHRIMP
! that must be how milly figured it out! what an absolute manipulative legend!!
p112: ohhh, jonah's dad must be the one who
lost all the money to anders

p113: yep
p114: i predict that jonah and milly will
get together by the end of the book

p116: that is a master plan
p123: is dr baxter faking his dementia or something??
p132: chaz is
uncle archer
?? honestly milly should just become a detective at this point
p135: honestly fair. he deserves water in the face
p141: damn fred baxter is a lot smarter than people give him credit for
p142: prediction: allison
gets pregnant with matt's baby

p156: DR BAXTER?? NOOOO
p169: i hope the Story kids didn't get the boot because of kayla
p181: maybe the car accident was just a cover up?
p193: i wouldn't, i have an off feeling about hazel
p198: WELL THAT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN!! KEEP THE PDA TO PRIVATE!! but also
#jilly 🫶🏻

p229: what if adam and anders tried to
kill matt and kayla

p242: matt too! well this is just looking suspicious! maybe anders
drowned both matt and dr baxter

p256: oh my God, major prediction time: mildred actually
died 24 years ago and someone else took both mildred's and theresa's place
and that's why you never see either of them
p257: or what if theresa
murdered kayla?

p296: well that turned out almost exactly how i thought it would. i should take up mystery solving

I read this book for reading olympics and I really enjoyed it. It was one of my quicker reads recently and I found it enjoyable. Some of the mysteries the reader was given the clues to figure out themselves while other secrets you have to read to the end to find out. It had a good message and the three main characters went through incredible development  in their relationships with themselves and each other.

This was way more enjoyable to me than the other books I’ve read by this author (I read one of us is lying but dnf the sequel). Felt more family mystery than thriller/murder mystery. I loved the setting and the twists along the way. It did get a little confusing on audio at times between the three female narrators, but I was able to pick up the ebook for the last 75% which definitely helped. I also appreciated that this was fairly clean for a YA book.

This reminded me of inheritance games and truly devious a little, so if you have enjoyed those you might like this one.

Its not bad… but not particularly that interesting to me… i found it to be rather boring and draggy, except when eventually the story came together and secrets were unfolded, the concept was really good. But the book itself was draggy and a slow for me… didn’t find it captivating for me.

family drama central!! This mystery explores the complexity and mystery surrounding the Story family. The grandmother mysteriously and suddenly disinherits and cuts off all of her children from the family fortune, with a note that reads “you know what you did” as the only explanation. This mystery really keeps you on your toes, with pretty big twists throughout. It’s not my favorite, but it definitely wasn’t bad. I liked that it was different from the other novels, surrounding the drama of one family instead of a friend group, providing something fresh for KMM readers. However, I preferred the “One of us is lying” books over this one (written by the same author). This is classified as a “thriller” but I would not say that this is scary by any means. It’s mostly just ya mystery with some suspense and crazy plot twists!

This had a great premise and resolution but was told incredibly poorly with no sense of urgency and thrill in the present, no sense of tragedy and intrigue in the past, and no sense of atmosphere in either. The characters and romance were an improvement from Two Can Keep A Secret, however (though the romance was still a bit pointless in this one). Also,
I liked how the ending echoed Jonas' story so much in terms of the imposter and financial fraud elements
.
