My second read through: I don’t understand why people have beef with this specific book in the series. It was beautiful. Truly an amazing and strange imagination has created these books. All of them are astounding.
The start of the book went from being the shakiest start to a book i've read to being my favorite part of the book.
I enjoyed this immensely! I believe Karsa is one of my favorite characters of all time honestly, something about his journey here and the promise of where he’s going to go, and the fact that through all of this he still is himself just better is incredibly satisfying to me. I love following messed up and unique characters like him.
So many satisfying and anticipated moments happened by the end of this book, it feels simultaneously like so much was wrapped up while also so much was blown wide open. I can’t wait to see what happens next. This series is something special and I’m so happy I decided to keep reading. I’m really sinking deep into my obsession with this world and these characters.
My ranking of the books so far:
1. Memories of Ice
2. House of Chains
3. Deadhouse Gates
4. Gardens of the Moon

I was very interested to start this one after book 3 to see where the story goes. It's often said that book 3 is the make or break for this series. However I can see where this book may be another hurdle. Unfortunately the first half of this one is mostly backstory for another new character that ties into the Pantheon hierarchy. It's not a bad backstory but it did catch me off guard at first. It had some interesting bits here and there. Really seeing the Dense-ness of this series now. However it's still fun to eventually get to the story beats that ring that "ah that's what is going on" feeling.
Not as epic as the memories of Ice but it got saved by the characters ❤️ although I didn't really like cutter's pov and I hated how women are described in this book which usually isn't the case with Erickson . It was incredibly emotional when we saw fiddler meeting up with the old friends , dancer , kellanvid and Osric started to get incredibly compelling and I look forward to more of their backstory and story in general , now to the biggest character Karsa Oorlong had one the best character development I have seen , I started to feel incredibly sad for Felisin in this book, Kalam and quick Ben convo was incredibly satisfying, liked Onrack's and trull Sengar friendship . Sengar and Greyfog (I think?) were so entertaining to read about ,
Hated some things though : the jarring pov switching is so irritating especially towards the end , the ending "battle" was somehow anti climatic , women description and arcs weren't good this time , Tavore is a bore , the way everything just "happens" like Raraku conveniently awakening before battle and Karsa just walking and stumbling in strange situations in which no logic is explained behind his actions and his journey , the magic behind the souls is pretty weird , I mean who decides when souls should just get trapped and when they go to hood? Do they stick to old alive comrades like what happened with the Wickan dogs , can they move freely ? I really want that to get explained because it is wishy-washy at this point

Still absolutely boring and I don't care a single bit about any of the characters and what happens to them.
