Some pages in the comic format were confusing to read by following the order with the panels not always lining up uniformly, but I liked the unique way of learning about the history and culture of Iran and its people. The portrayal by western media of Iran is completely different from who the majority of people from there actually are, according to the multiple creators of this book. The content is balanced very well between text heavy sections and that with less text. Even the art without the text tells a strong narrative. Hopefully, this graphic novel wins some awards and gains traction among readers to become more informed about the reality of Iran, its many revolutions, and the current state of the nation.

The title for this graphic-essay collection is the rallying cry for a people’s revolution, sparked in part by the vicious murder of Mahsa Amini on September 16, 2022. Amini was beaten to death by Iran’s so-called Morality Police for wearing her veil improperly. This collection illustrates the current events in Iran, including background on the existing regime, how they came to power and how corrupt these supposedly religious rulers really are. As Western nations fall into authoritarian practices, this shows th strength and power of the people who fight back. A timely lesson and inspiration. From a purely technical/aesthetic standpoint, some of the artwork was not to my taste and the sections that had a cursive-style font were difficult to read. I’d have preferred block lettering throughout.
