Lovely story! Although, I wasn't a big fan of the narrator. I know the main characters are young but the baby voice that the narrator uses makes them sound like 10 year old which doesn't match the story.

Wish it was a trilogy! The ending was really sweet and pretty happy, which I honestly needed at the time
This book mostly suffers from trying to do too much. It is, after all, just a duology and there's enough ideas in here for at least 5 books. That makes some things feel rushed and the solutions too convenient because they have to come fast.
That said, all ideas and concepts in this book are good ideas! There's just no time to let them truly blossom into what they could be.

This duology was such an enjoyable read!! The world was so captivating and interesting - the story, characters and twists were fantastic! The relationships between all the different characters felt so well constructed too!
The love & yearning between Crier and Ayla was so well written and I was lapping it up! I loved both of them sooo much, individually and together!!
There were still a few wordy moments that I did find myself glossing over but regardless I loved this series so so much!

This sequel was equally as amazing as the first and forms a wonderful conclusion to this story.
The character writing remains strong and you see a real progression and development of the two leads. Crier learns to stick up for herself and gain confidence in her own abilities, while Ayla cools off, able to come to terms with her trauma and growing feelings for Crier. They serve as lovely foils to each other and it's great to see them grow together. The side characters are a little less fleshed out than the first book's but they are still fun to read and see how they interact with each other.
The plot is a bit faster paced and has some interesting turns, though I would say the final act does feel a little rushed. The Shades don't seem to pose as much of a threat as they were made out to be, and Kinok too is defeated a little too easily having had such a great build up. These are more nitpicks than anything else. All of the plot elements set up beforehand generally had a satisfying payoff.
The descriptions are more vivid this time around and the writing is beautifully immersive. We learn more aspects of the world and lore and it all ties together well.
This is a brilliant duology and I would highly recommend.
