:( I was so so so disappointed. Everything was just meh.

Emerson and Kaleb sounded the same argh! Even though I knew even before I started reading that it was going to be in Kaleb's POV, I kept forgetting even up till chapter 15 and I got really confused when it sounded like Emerson was in love with Lily. Emerson and Kaleb were 2 very different characters but they had the same narrative style. It was done poorly especially since I read Hourglass recently.

There was very little actual time traveling other than baddies popping in and out at random moments. Which was confusing, I still don't really get how it works. I felt like I was reading material for school because I had to remember all the rules and all the ways in which things work. Like rips, portals, different abilities, different characters that rarely contribute, funky technology etc. There was a lot of information dumping because Em and gang were trying to piece things together.

I couldn't relate to anyone except Lily. I honestly didn't care for anyone. Kaleb kept talking about how others felt which meant that there was close to no progress in terms of character development since all we got were one-word emotions from everyone. Kaleb didn't even talk about his own feelings. :/

The ending was the worst out of all the problems in the book.

*SPOILER ALERT*

*SPOILER ALERT*

So that evil lady (forgot her name) is supposed to wholeheartedly believe in someone (Lily) who stole her cool device? And she didn't notice her precious device was missing all this time??? Wasn't she trying really hard to open it? And cool-headed Lily didn't know that she could just lie to baddie until her hot-headed boyfriend told her to?

*END OF SPOILER*

Initially I was going to give Timepiece 3.5 stars but after listing all these down, it only deserves a 2.5.

So what gave it the 2.5 stars? Timepiece was exactly like Hourglass, there really wasn't that much of a progress. The only real progress that took 300 pages is the thing about why Jack wants to go back in time (which was stupid and I couldn't relate to since he is supposedly 'rotten to his core') and the Infinityglass. I guess if you really really liked Hourglass you would probably enjoy Timepiece since its the same thing, just with a different couple. The pacing was also as good as in Hourglass. I kept turning the pages even though I wasn't really into the story. Myra McEntire just has a way with words.

Overall it was just really boring and forgettable. I don't think I would be reading the sequel.

My rating:

Recommended for anyone who gave Hourglass 5 stars. No point reading this esp if you were on the fence for Hourglass.

I've been trying to read this forever. There was too long of a break between Hourglass and this book and this book was definitely slower. I did enjoy Kaleb's point of view but there were times that this book was silly and boring. I'm hoping that it was just setting up for an awesome third book.

I was so excited to start on Timepiece just as soon as I finished Hourglass. Timepiece definitely did not disappoint! If you haven’t read Hourglass, or my review for Hourglass, you should definitely do so before reading this review.

Timepiece picks up soon after Hourglass ends. The book is told from Kaleb’s point of view, which worked well for me because I was intrigued by him in the first book. Getting into Kaleb’s mind was a very interesting thing. He was not at all what I expected. Tattooed and pierced, he is the ultimate bad boy. But underneath it all, he is such a caring soul. We get to see that in the way he treats Lily and Emerson, and even with Ava at some point.

We also get to see a lot more of Lily, Em’s best friend, in this book. I liked that she was one of the main characters this time around, as well as the love interest for Kaleb. Lily is a feisty little thing, I enjoyed reading her story more than I expected to. I love watching her explore and grow into her ‘ability’. Also, she made such a cute couple with Kaleb!

We are also introduced to a few new characters in this novel as well; a few that I am seriously interested in. (Poe being the main one.) I am curious to see what route McEntire is going to go with this character. And of course, there are a few characters that you are really going to hate! I always like a well written bad guy.

The storyline for the book was much the same for the first book. Timelines are changing, and the crew is still chasing the bad guy, trying to stop him before its too late and everything changes. This book did seem to have a bit more suspense than the previous book did and a bit more action as well. It definitely had me guessing!

Overall, I like this series more and more as I go along. The characters and the storyline just get better and better. I have already started the third book in the series, Infinityglass, and I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next!

Happy Reading!

After reading and falling - hard - for Myra McEntire's debut novel, Hourglass, I couldn't help but feverishly anticipate Timepiece, the sequel. Hourglass was heart-breaking, fast-paced, romantic, and unexpected, so I had high hopes for the follow-up - and in no way did Myra disappoint. Timepiece is told from Kaleb Ballard's point of view, and I think anyone who's been around my blog since I reviewed Hourglass knows that I adore Kaleb. Kaleb is the perfect choice to narrate Timepiece, which I absolutely devoured. McEntire builds on the time-travel mythos she introduced readers to in Hourglass, expanding the foundations with new lore, and raising the stakes with new dangers. Sinister organization Chronos catapults into the scene with an ultimatum for Kaleb, Emerson, Michael, and the rest of the Hourglass family: if they don't find and stop Jack Landers before October 31st, Chronos WILL step in to neutralize him, which means timelines could be eradicated. Jack has reversed and changed the course of several of the member's lives, so the thought of Chronos doing as they've threatened is understandably frightening, and adds a fantastically realistic element of danger that threads woven throughout Timepiece.

What I like the best about Myra McEntire's books is her characters. Her writing style and story-telling ability are both outrageously superb. Myra absolutely knows how to tell the kind of story that leaves you on the edge of your seat, heart-pounding, desperate for more, more, more. But it's her characters that are larger than life in an incredibly appealing way. And in Timepiece, we see all of them in a new light...through Kaleb's eyes. Kaleb is an empath, and so along with his narration, he also terrifically and unintentionally reads and conveys the character's emotions.

I loved watching Kaleb explore his abilities and I fell for him all over again. Kaleb. Is. Amazing. He doesn't see himself as anything more than broken parts and pieces, but luckily, Kaleb is surrounded by people who care about him and who try throughout Timepiece to help him see the good in himself. I am not ashamed to say that as often as I laughed with Kaleb or at his antics, I cried for him, and my heart definitely broke more than once. There is SO much more to Kaleb than we see in Hourglass; beneath the surface is a man searching for home and acceptance, struggling to find himself. I wanted to wrap him up in a hug and just not let go. I enjoyed the chance to see Kaleb's point of view, and the chance to rediscover the characters I already loved.

Timepiece is an action-packed book, full of twists, turns, secrets, and a definite sense of racing against the clock that's ticking toward disaster. Rips - ripples in time - are appearing at random and more frequently then ever, and the scariest part is...more and more Hourglass members can see them. And they're more difficult in Timepiece to distinguish from reality, throwing doubt into everyone - and the reader's - minds of what's real and what isn't. Myra McEntire doesn't hold anything back, and I absolutely found myself holding my breath a time or two. By the end of Timepiece, I still had questions, yet enough was answered - in often heart-wrenching ways - to satisfy my curiosity.

I also loved the way all the various relationships were explored in Timepiece. Even with danger surrounding them, Myra still believably highlighted Emerson and Michael's relationship, to which Kaleb's point of view gives a new depth, and Kaleb's relationships with both Michael, and his father, Liam, as well as his depth of emotion for his mother, Grace. We get the privilege of seeing Kaleb and Lily, Em's best friend meet and develop a unique relationship, full of several tentative steps forward, and ultimately a beautifully unfolding beginning of something amazing. My heart ached for everyone involved in these interactions, and like Kaleb, I was so frustrated and hurt at times for him and for the others. These characters go through so much, yet everyone is so strong. I really admire Myra's characters - their heart, their fierceness, their loyalty and determination.

Timepiece is the perfect sequel to Hourglass, full of all manner of excitement, and scattered, quiet moments that will touch your heart in a way you will not forget anytime soon. It's also an incredibly brave story that takes chances. I didn't want to be done, because I didn't want to leave Myra's world. I'm not sure if there will be another book in the series, but I already know that Timepiece is the sort of amazing book that will leave its mark on you.

NOTE: 4.5 out of 5 stars!

The second installment in Myra McEntire’s Hourglass series is told from Kaleb’s perspective and oh, what a perspective it is! I love that Myra was able to execute a male’s POV so flawlessly. I honestly loved how raw and honest his narration was. In the first book, it was easy to see Kaleb as a meat-head with lots of tattoos and a rebel without a cause, but he actually has so much depth. He is a complex character that is incredibly well fleshed-out in Timepiece. I loved getting to know him, seeing Emerson and Michael through his eyes, and being able to experience his interactions with Lily grow into something heart-melting.

The plot, as usual, was full of twists and turns, “oh my goodness” moments, and plenty of suspense. I enjoyed being able to get the history of The Hourglass and the other characters that play important roles in this time-travel adventure. I really, really loved this book and I frankly adored Kaleb. HUGE kudos to Myra for letting us get to know that big lug…he’s a big teddy bear! And, oh!, the ending…beautifully crafted and wonderfully emotional.

I cannot wait for the next installment. I want to know more about Kaleb, Lily, Michael, Emerson, and everyone and everything. Even if you haven’t thought of time-travel as a sub-genre that you would enjoy, I can guarantee Myra McEntire’s expert crafting of her characters, plot, and world will be convincing enough!

At first I felt duped – this wasn’t the continued story from Emmeron’s POV. I’d fallen in love with her in ‘Hourglass,’ and was really looking forward to more. Instead what I got was the story being picked up right where the last book ended, but with Kaleb’s narrative.

It is an easy read though. I was able to fly through this, and thank goodness, because it took the first half of the novel to get over my disappointment and get into Kaleb’s head. We still get the goodness of Em and Michael, but from a different perspective.

I have grown to like Kaleb, and was rooting for him by the end of the novel. A tattooed and pierced bad boy with a marshmallow heart.

Lily was a breath of fresh air as far as a love interest and heroines go. She wasn’t the reactionary teen we see a lot of in YA. She was level headed and sarcastic in a dark way, not in the exaggerated obvious pun sort of way. She really stole my heart and I was cheering for her and Kaleb from early on.

It’s not oversaturated on the love and heavy petting either. McEntire really builds her relationships and characters in a realistic and organic way; which is impressive given the landscape being warped from rips and alternate versions of time and space which kept changing. Em and Michael, Lily and Kaleb were fixed points amongst the chaos.

I’ve deducted a few marks for the slow pacing at the beginning, and the lack of story. There could have been more action or conflict packed into ‘Timepiece’ – it was easy and pleasant to read, but did not live up to the likes of ‘Hourglass.’

Although the writing isn’t fancy, it does allow you to speed through the book; but the way McEntire weaves a story is masterful. So many threads to keep track of… brilliant imagination come to life on the written page. Really makes me want to grab everything she’s ever written to add it to my library.

A thoroughly entertaining read, not as dark as ‘Hourglass,’ more of the timey-wimey things and a couple of plot twists I did not see coming, but leading us towards what should be a very interesting conclusion in ‘Infinityglass.’ (Which I must read asap!)

Great sequel to Hourglass! While we see many familiar faces in this book, the main focus shifts to Kaleb and Lily. The story is exciting and introduces some new concepts to the way time is structured in this series. We get a lot more back story on Lily, which is exactly what I wanted after reading the first book, so that was excellent. There is a clear set-up at the end for a next book, so I'll be watching for it.

Would not recommend. (See my review for the last book in the series).

Myra, oh Myra. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways… Okay, seriously, enough with the swoony crap! I can’t help it, though. The woman is awesome.

TIMEPIECE, the second installment to the Hourglass books, released just last month. I know, I’m a wee late in my reading. *sheepish grin* If you haven’t read HOURGLASS, you seriously need to. Snag yourself a copy and read up on the little spitfire known as Emerson Cole. You also need to understand Em to really appreciate some of TIMEPIECE.

See, Myra McEntire flipped the script on us and TIMEPIECE was written entirely from Kaleb Ballard’s POV. Yummmm….Kaleb…. Sorry, I was typing something wasn’t I? Back on track. Ahem… So yeah, Kaleb is so different to read from than Em. HOURGLASS was from her POV. We got a sense of Kaleb in HOURGLASS, but he shines in TIMEPIECE like the sweat on my brow from trying to eat a Fireball.

Some time has passed when we pick up TIMEPIECE. But it opens with a bang, I tell you. I thought I was seriously gonna have to stalk Miss Myra and sucker-punch her for such an opening! Alas, all came around and I cooled my heels.

Jack Landers is still on the loose, we meet a creepy Poe guy who has a freak time related ability our Team Hourglass can’t figure out, Teague may not be as bad as we think, or possibly just worse, Chronos is just a myth along with the Infinityglass…or are they?

TIMEPIECE hooked me in with Kaleb’s unique voice and snarky southern gentleman who remembers his manners…in most occasions. Many questions from HOURGLASS are answered, but many more take their place with TIMEPIECE. We learn more about Jack, along with a face-slap that I saw coming. (giggle) Kaleb and his dad play a little emotional ping-pong that broke my heart at times. Sometimes a big, tatted, pierced, screw-up (at least that's how he sees himself) like Kaleb needs a hug too! Geez!

Then we have Lily. Our little Tiger Lily. Oh, I just thought I loved Emerson. And I do, but Lily is my kind of GIRL! Feisty, smart, feisty, direct, feisty, doesn’t put up with anyone’s BS, feisty, and she has a heart of pure platinum! Did I mention she’s feisty? The banter between Lily and Kaleb KILLED me. Love it. I also have to admit there were numerous occasions where I screamed out “kiss her already!” Scared my dog when I did.

In fact, allow me to share a spoiler-free favorite line of mine: “I wanted to unzip my skin and pull her inside.” Ooooh nelly! Yum-mmy!

Emerson and Michael take a bit of a backseat in TIMEPIECE, sort of. They are there and the tension between Kaleb and Mike, when it comes to Em, is pretty awesome. Then the tension, AGAIN, between Kaleb and Mike, when it comes to Liam Ballard (Kaleb’s dad), was just wow. Kaleb has, shall we say, some daddy issues. More heartbreak here…

Anyway, I felt the overall feel of TIMEPIECE was sort of like a countdown. Even when the book was done, I still felt the tick-tick-tick of something in the corner. Sure, we learned some about Chronos, the Infinityglass, and how Team Hourglass needs to figure out/find both to secure the time continuum, but so much still hangs in the balance. What is Chronos, really? Can Lily find the Infinityglass? Will Jack find it first? Will Teague? What if Team Hourglass accidentally gets stuck in the new live-and-in-person rips that plague Ivy Springs? If Team Hourglass does find the Infinityglass, will they still have time to put everything right? Or will everyone’s timeline get screwed and our fave freak magnets end up on completely different timelines?

We will have to wait for INFINITYGLASS to know for sure…
