The Seattle Police Department is selecting new recruits to join the force with a specific mandate to seek out a few women. Tracy Crosswhite is a chemistry teacher who has applied, along with another young woman. One detective on the selection committee is determined to help her fail before she graduates from the Academy.

This was short but feels like a perfect setup for what’s to come as I can’t wait to dig into the series. We get a taste of what Tracy may be facing based on the misogynistic behavior of some of the members of the department. I really like her style and she’s cool under pressure. Tracy’s also quick witted if how she handled a dicey situation in the Academy is an indicator. I listened to the story and am impressed with the narrator who will be the voice for the series. She distinguished the characters nicely, adding flavor to those who needed some. I’m definitely getting the audiobooks and am eager to get started.

I loved this introduction to Tracey’s character and what caused the strife between her and Nolasco.

This is an introduction to Tracy Crosswhite series. Tracy is a bad ass top of her class for being a policewomen. This is the prequel to her series. I like how she does not take any bullshit from the men in the class including the instructors. I also like how she helps the other women in the class get to the point to pass to become a policewomen. This was a good start to understand what it was like for women when they first join the police department and go to the academy. i am looking forward to reading the series.

This book was a short but fulfilling prequel to My Sister's Grave. I've grown to love Tracy Crosswhite's character, and this short story gave plenty of backstory and character development.

Nice quick intro to Tracy Crosswhite but I really cringed when the interviewing board asked her what she would do if/when she got pregnant. I realize this is fiction but that is totally illegal!

This was a grand introduction to the character of Tracy. It was superbly written which has been the standard for most books in this series. We get to see the training bits and also the vulgarities some men throw at females. Here Johnny Nolasco is at his worst but Tracy as calm as ever, even with the emotional turmoil she is suffering from losing Sarah, handles it well!
