This story is a gem. Olivia Atwater's writing is fantastic! I just want to keep reading until I finish type of book! The story is so interesting, intriguing, different and a bit dark. Some of that darkness is honoring to the realities of this world. Winnie and Mr. Quincy have interesting depth and dimensions. I love them together although, the romance is second to the fantastic story. Honestly, I am already thinking about re-reading this book, do not think I will wait long to do so. Wondering what else I will catch on the next read...
Can not wait to read more by Olivia Atwater!!

A lovely, clever, and romantic gothic fairytale!
Olivia Atwater has done it again!
I loved the gothic vibes in this one. You get everything you expect from a cursed haunted mansion to a dark faerie tale that weaves together danger and a subtly building romance (as is Atwater’s style with romance).
This book is the first in a new romantic Faerie Tale series - but this time moving on from Regency to Victorian. However, keep in mind that it does tie in with the previous series. (You don’t have to read the Regency Faerie Tale books before reading this one, but I do recommend at least reading Half a Soul).
I like that this book introduces an overarching plot that will clearly continue on in the sequels - even while shifting focus around with the characters. I cannot wait to read the next one!

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this book. I found it while looking for books similar to The Spellshop, the blurb sounded good, but this book was absolutely nothing like The Spellshop at all.
I felt that it was very slow toward the beginning, and I didn't feel the Victorian aspects of it at all, other than the time period it was set in.
I felt the whole idea of The Witchwood Knot was a bit overly complicated at times, and confusing. I couldn't fully understand how Winnie even had ties to go there...I get that she knew the Lady of the house at some point, but not enough to risk her entire life for.
While I was lost, and a bit confused about multiple things, I did love Winnie as a character. She's aware that she's a SA survivor and is all the tougher for it, and stands up for herself when she feels the need to. I loved watching her come into her own and freely give permission to be touched and kissed, we all love consent!
I did think the "romance" was lacking, as it doesn't even happen until right at the end, and until that point they don't even seem to like each other. (enemies to lovers is fun where there's chemistry...)
The writing itself was well done, and I also enjoyed Oliver and Robert as characters, even more so since Robert had such growth. But I'm not sure I'd want to read book 2.

Really loved this book and the darker atmosphere than her other books. I love all her MCs but Winnie had my heart, love a jaded woman who takes no nonsense. I do wish like the final fight had been more drawn out or felt more touch and go. We were slowly building and then suddenly she was sacrificing herself bbbuttt it’s literally a cozy fantasy so I mean that’s kinda the genre staple. Robert’s dad just being dead is so funny to me like dang how’s he doing lol. Can’t wait for the next book I want it now so bad. Also even though a rat tail is the least sexy tell to have he won me over in the end.
