Fun read with some dark tinges. Really like the relationship between Bee and Bernadette as well as the unorthodox format of the book.
An engaging, quick read, but, ultimately, too many unbelievable twists and plot holes sink this (Zodiac) boat. Also, I feel that the quirky, genius, incorruptible teenager has become an overused plot device cheaply inserted to force the reader into feeling a certain way about the story.

This book embodies everything that is good about fiction. It is, first and foremost, a great story: funny, smart, commentary w/o being heavy handed. Family dramas seem to make up a good swatch of my reading, but this one is much better than the othet things I've read lately. You can't beat the characters and the mode of delivery is perfect.

Came solidly recommended as good fun and easy to read - definitely ticked both of those boxes. Initially was a bit wary of the narrative style - exposition through various correspondence formats sometimes does my head in (I think the last book I read that had been done in this style was Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which bored me to tears). However, within a few pages I knew I was going to enjoy this book. Witty and well-paced, with genuinely lovable characters and a heartwarming plot, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey of eccentric Bernadette and her loving, albeit exasperated, family.

I wasn't really expecting to enjoy this one as much as I did. I really enjoyed the format of this with a collection of correspondence and Bee interjecting here and there. I loved the subtle humor throughout and the topics of mental health. I loved the interactions between the characters. Even though some of them were a bit over the top, it really worked for the story. The main thing that didn't really work for me is how rambly it got at some points. Mainly when Bernadette was writing longer correspondence and some of Bee's narration. It definitely fit the characters, but I found myself wishing those parts would just be over. All in all, though, I had a good time with this one.
