This book was a wild ride. I knew next to nothing about it when I started reading. It was like an investigative cult documentary, but with a healthy dose of spice. I enjoyed how creepy all of the monsters were. The descriptions really brought them to life. I also enjoyed the cameos of the couples I imagine the other books are about. I’m equally interested in them as I was in Leon and Rae.

The audiobook was a great way to experience this book. The eerie factor of this book was doubled when the creeps were whispering in your ear. A+ production quality. It enhanced my enjoyment of the book!

The perfect blend of spice and plot. There were a few moments where I was pulled out of the story because of how the villains just let the main characters leave traps, but I still gave it 5 stars because the rest of it is so well written and compelling. I can't wait to read the next two.

Her Soul to Take was the dark, atmospheric urban horror/fantasy/romance I was looking for.

Y’all, consent is ~sexy~ and if there’s a theme throughout this book, it’s consent. Not just in the spicy scenes, but as a foundation of the relationships in the book. Everything, and everyone, has to be freely given in a way that I appreciated so much!

Leon and Rae were really good together, though I will say that their emotional relationship was one of the weaker aspects of the last act. It definitely felt like the romantic plot was front loaded, and the urban fantasy horror became more prominent as the book went on. I was definitely still interested in the plot, but since this is marketed more as a romance that was missing for me at the end.

If you like creepy monsters, sexy monsters, and cults, this is for you!

Emily Henry was right - you can write a romance novel with a cult in it. 4 stars
