I'm really pleasantly surprised by this book. Usually when you pick up anything with a bit of kink, the story, character development and world building get pushed to the side but that really wasn't the case here. It was a really well fleshed out story with likable characters and a lovely amount of romance mixed into the drama of it all. I'm not quite sure why it's not 5 stars for me. I don't have any complaints but it just didn't make me feel like if I hadn't read this book I'd be missing out. I probably won't read the next book just because I dislike switching main characters in a series but I'll definitely be giving this author another go

I am really loving Harley Laroux’s writing in her books. She does a really good job capturing the mood and atmosphere of her stories. I was not expecting this to have so many horror aspects to it, but there were quite a bit of times where reading specific scenes actually gave me chills down my spine, and truly creeped me out! Actually, I wasn’t too sure what to expect in this story. All I knew was that it was a human falling in love with a demon with special equipment and that was really it. But I was kept on my toes at all times throughout the book. Outcomes and leading events were unexpected and the characters are well established. I enjoyed both Leon and Rae’s characters and the way that their relationship develops is soooooo good. 😭😭😭 The sexual tension between them is insane, and this is another thing that I really love about Harley’s books. When it comes to the spicy scenes it doesn’t feel unwarranted, and rushed, and just thrown in randomly. They all have this tension filled build up, and emotions attached to them that brings so much life to the scene. Also the scenes are fiiiiiilthy, and kinky, and Leon has such a dirty mouth that I was gooped and gagged reading some of the things that he was saying. I really enjoy authors who don’t hold back on dialogue that may be unsavory in modern society. (this goes for dialogue outside of Leon’s dirty talk too).
This main plot in this book does have some blank spaces in it that are a little mysterious or seem a bit off and that is because those blanks are meant to be filled in by the next two books. I did enjoy the very natural flow of how the two side plots and couples are introduced. I know that Harley said that they are interconnected standalones, but I like learning about how all of these things started in the first book, and then heading into the other ones. I haven’t read the other two books yet, but I feel like the experience would be ruined reading them out of order. You have to get that first introduction of the characters and their background first, then go into the next books. Harley you have a forever fan in me and I will be continuing on with this series. 💜💜🙂↕️🙂↕️💜🙂↕️
