Is it a 4* or a 5*? I am not quite sure, but it is and was fabulous. Boyd's storytelling draws me in every time, and I love the way he spans the decades. Complex, gritty, moving and historically interesting to top it all off. Thoroughly satisfying.

William Boyd is one of my favorite writers and his latest didn't disappoint. The man knows how to simply write a story. No gimmicks. No showing off. He just writes a story that will suck you in and take you into its layers. Restless is set in the '30s/40s and in current time and is about a mother/daughter, spies, WW2, love etc etc. Boyd can do no wrong in my eyes...
This was a good spy thriller that kept me guessing right to the end!

I relly liked it. I liked the flashback parts more than the present and was kinda hoping for more action in the present, but what can ya do. So yeah Eva was a very likable, badass character. But it was also really fun (in a sarcastic way) to see a man trying to write female protagonist and do it in such a...such a manly way, if you know what i mean.
This was a reread. Boyd knows how to tell a ripping yarn, and is too clever to give an unambiguous resolution. However, rereading enables one to see the plot machinations more openly.
