Yet another urban fantasy a la the Dresden Files, this one stands out because it leans far more on the absurd and humorous than the noir aspects. Although some of the jokes are far too silly, overall it was very enjoyable, and I look forward to checking out the sequel soon.

Annoying main character with scattershot thinking processes. And Canderous is also tremendously judgmental as well as instantly falling in love with women he meets (dead or undead).

Got boring near the end, but it was funny up until about 3/4 the way through.

It took me awhile to get into Dead to Me. I actually started it, put it down for another book after a chapter, and then picked it up again a few weeks later. Once I picked it up again though I stuck with it and it slowly grew on me. I didn't expect the Harry Potter-ish-ness of the world with bookcases that chase people and try to eat them, but I found it fun. It's no Dresden Files, but I'm interested to see how the series grows & what the next book will bring.

Derivative, formulaic, and cliched. This book brings nothing new to the table in the genre nor gives us a character about whom we should be expected to care.
The story is as rife with the standard tropes of urban fantasy as the painting on the cover, only less lifelike.
The characters are wooden. Simon is inexplicably wet-behind-the-ears (I know it's a plot device for world-building, but it's lazy and illogical) for someone who has been doing the job for a while.
Connor treats him like a wide-eyed babe, but what are we supposed to believe he's been doing on the job up to this point?
I hated this book.

The pacing of this book felt very off. I was surprised that the ending came when it did, it felt both too soon and like the book was still slogging through the middle.

This book is fantastic and I highly recommend all scifi people to pick this book up and read it.

funny thing was I found myself more drawn to the secondary character of Connor who I found to be more interesting. Simon Canderous was everything that a woman would want in a man, except that he could never, ever touch her without knowing about some part of her life that he doesn't need to know.

I liked the psychometry aspect of the book. How awesome would it be to pick up an item and understand the journey that item and/or person took.

I'm looking forward to more books by this fantastic young, new author.
