This is my second time reading it through all the way. So good! W. H. Auden's afterword touches upon why this is such a good Christian literature. No symbol hunting allowed here.

Decided it was high time we had a delightful read aloud none of us girls were familiar with and this did not disappoint!

I have every intention of keeping this book just to read it to my children before bed someday. It's charming and well-told, though disjointed in flow in a way that is appropriate for the tale itself.

A parable of a journey to the "land from whence the shadows fall." In true MacDonald fashion, not everything lines up to a specific allegorical meaning but rather guides the reader into contemplation and quiet awareness of spiritual realities in general, and in particular the trials that cleanse and mature us along our way. Gentle and subtle, and the sacrifice and metamorphosis of the "air-fish" is particularly lovely.

While this was good it just didn't leave a lasting presence in my mind. I might give it another read to see if I just missed things while listening to the audiobook.

A reread of a very old favorite. My copy is coverless; I think I was about ten when I got it. MacDonald's writing captivated me then and it enchants me now. Rich, dense, liquid prose.
