You should read The Knife of Never Letting Go first. This isn't a series of separate parts. It is sequential in the way the Lord of the Rings is sequential; one story in 3 volumes.

If you ever wondered how good people, kind people, found themselves participating in the evil of bad governments, this will show you the baby-step choices that lead to that hell.

That’s all any of us has to do now. Just stay alive and get through it.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this one. On the one hand it was frustrating and repetitive. On the other it was kind of a slow burn with a good set up for the next book. Undecided. The third book will make or break the series for me.

hm, a little bit rushed compared to the first book, and i wanted more from viola and mistress coyle's relationship as i feel it was a bit lacking, especially with what viola said about leadership. other than that, i really liked this book. it showed a lot of promise for the middle book in a series. looking forward to finishing.

///ESPAÑOL///

No puedo esperar para leer Monsters of Men. Se viene difícil la cosa.

I had already started doing this review… when it vanished.
WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT LIFE.

It is way more dynamic than the first one. Todd and Viola are always planning what to do, and a lot of things that happen make the story to be always moving forward. Everything that happened was a surprise for me, honestly. It was in no way predictable.

The characters. The characters the characters the characters. They are human. They have an incredible development, they are deep, good and bad at the same time. I don’t know how to explain how much I love the characters in this trilogy.
From Mayor Prentiss, who is the devil of the devils, and who there’s no escape from; Mistress Coyle, as unpredictable as she is; Todd and Viola, which I deeply love and really like seeing together; Lee, who is let in a sidekick position, but who loves his family and does whatever he can to look for them. And Davy Prentiss. Bloody Davy Prentiss. As the story goes by, we can see more facets of him. We see how he trusts Todd more and more as time passes, how he sees him as a brother, and how the only thing that wishes for is a happy ending for everyone. It broke my soul when he insinuates that he had a girlfriend in one of the prisons, and it broke my soul how he died. I had an intevitable flashback of Manchee and his “Todd?”’s. In the end, he was the one I liked the most.

I can’t wait to read Monsters of Men. Shit is gonna explode (again).

"Finally, we come to the real thing, the thing that makes men men, the thing we were born for, Todd.
War"

I'm in utter disbelief. Mad, in astonishment, even if I saw it coming miles ago.
These books don't have all the credit they should. They are important. Massively important. To understand the basics about different morals, points of view, trust, loyalty, love... This book could teach more than that dreadful subject called "ethics" i had on high school.
All of that while keeping enough tension to make you an ulcera (I swear I don't feel good). And having characters that you're incapable not to like.
Bra-vo.

This book wasn't as suspenseful or exciting as TKONLG but I still found it very enjoyable. I loved getting to see more from Viola's POV, seeing more of the Spackle, and the developing relationship between Todd and Davey. At times, though, I felt that the constant question of ~Who're the bad guys, the Answer or the Ask?~ was kind of dragged-out.
The unresolved questions that I have and that cliffhanger of an ending have left me super excited to get to reading the sequel!

An action packed sci fi western empire strikes back

While it is intentionally cringy, this book definitely has an empire strikes back on steriods feel. Im very curious to see how things go. This book definitely puts "we are the choices we make" at the forefront of this story. Excited to see where book 3 goes. This book was action packed from start to finish.
