This starts off with MCs already having feelings for each other so there's not much romance. What it mainly is is an exploration of CNC kink, but unfortunately their first scene didn't feel "safe". There was no predetermined way for her to signal him that forced oral was getting too much, as well as no prep anal is less "roleplay" and more "trauma risk". Even the vanilla sex they had was on a kitchen floor, that's just all kinds of uncomfortable.

The spice was good, but the dialog was cringe and repetitive.

Definitely an intro to this kind of kink for me, probably wouldn't have picked it up on my own but it was a rec. I'm glad I did, it was a fun spicy read and a safe/fluffy intro into cnc or whatever you want to call it. I loved the communication between the characters, both between the main two but also between them and their friends. There was a lot of checking in and discussion and follow up which made me absolutely love these two. The dynamic between the guys was very clearly written by a woman and had me dying (half laughing/half cringing) pretty consistently, but even still it was fun to read them if you can suspend reality. Also, there was A LOT of talk about food being chewed while talking or falling out of their mouths and it was kinda gross tbh. Normally, wouldnt bother me but jt came up so often I was like ya okay no maybe pick up some manners?? I know it was meant to show their comfort level or whatever, but nope not for me. There were also several mentions of questionable fluids on both their uniforms that they just ignored and then pressed up against each other and that grossed me right out like please no!!! Wasn't even their fluids, just random - nope gotta stop, makes me nauseous.
Overall it was spicy, had me laughing, had me cringing, and was a good intro into CNC.

Dnf at 78% not because it's poorly written. It's not. I love Daisy Jane's writing. But this is one of the cases where you have to read the readers guide on her website or the content warnings, and not take them lightly. Sometimes a mention of a kink or trigger doesn't mean they'll go deep into it, but that is not the case here. If you like light cnc and minor breath play, this is not for you. It's goes hard. And it turns out, I'm not as into it as I thought I was.

The absolute best part of this book is the beginning flirtation and banter, where Mally starts to act on his feelings, and Sam starts to look at him differently.
Second best was the maturity they both displayed in discussing wants, desires, and feelings. No miscommunication trope here folks. I’m not a fan of friends little sister being considered taboo, but in this case I think the taboo element is because Sammy has a rape fantasy, and there a lot of complicated feelings for both of them around that.
