I enjoyed this book.
I liked this book. Not loved. But Kate is a hard working attorney who has been trying to make a name for herself in her life. She always been the scholarship girl. We meet her when she is kind of heartbroken over her ex who is another attorney at the same law firm. Then we meet Dominic, a construction worker but part time restoration specialist. He has dreams of becoming an architect but put it on hold when his father got sick. They end of meeting because Kate's neighbor is Dominic's aunt. They hit it off. Kate ends lying that she's moved on from her ex at work. And when Dominic and Kate are seen together at Home Depot, then rumors start to fly. They end up faking a relationship so Kate can get a promotion and Dominic can help his sister out with her nasty divorce. They fall in love. It gets all screwy. Kate's boss is a complete douche bag and her ex is trying to win her back. Dominic ends up walking in and seeing most of the conversation But they reconcile in the end. Kate leaves her job and Dominic ends up going back to school to get his degree. Yay love. Maybe I'm a little cyclical but they only had sex once. I don't think it works like that in these kind of books.

A lovely sweet love story. Really enjoyed getting to know Kate and Dominic and look forward to more of the Sorensen Family.
I'm a sucker for certain types of romance stories. Fake significant other is one of them. For those who were lovers of the movie The Proposal, you will love Her Backup Boyfriend.
When the story begins, lady lawyer, Kate, has just purchased her first house and it needs a bit of renovation. After the end of her relationship with fellow lawyer, Michael, a year before, the purchase seemed to be the first step in the process of moving on with her life. When Kate finds out that Michael is now engaged to another lawyer in the firm, she needs to prove she is over him by inventing her own relationship.
Dominic is a former architectural student who is working for the family construction business since his father's heart attack three years earlier. He's the nephew of Kate's new neighbor and although they had an unusual first meeting, he would love to get a chance to remodel such a beautiful house.
The stage is set when the two make a run to the local hardware store and bump into Michael and his fiancé. Once Dominic is clued in, he agrees to play Kate's boyfriend as long as she helps his sister with her divorce.
This was a quick read with plenty of steam and laughs along the way. I loved getting such insight into why each of the characters was hesitant at making their fake relationship a real one. I will tell you this, Kate's ex might be perfect on paper, but Dominic is the one you want to burn the paper for. He's hot, sexy, and has a heart of gold. This guy needs to go on a list for best book boyfriend. I hope we get to hear more about Kate and Dominic as the Sorenson Family Saga continues.
Thank you to Ashlee Mallory and Entangled Publishing for gifting me a copy of Her Backup Boyfriend in exchange for an honest review.

Love!
This was such a fun romance to get lost in! Both Dominic & Kate had been hurt in the past & that made them ignore their true feeling. Watching them dance around the truth with blinders on & then realizing what was really important was right in front all a long. We all have a voice of self doubt in our heads, I was just happy they finally saw what was really there.

Her Backup Boyfriend was a cute read. Light and fun and enjoyable. Kate and Dominic were really cute together.
Kate is a lawyer who always plays by the rules. She still works with her ex, the guy she thought she would marry one day, and it is tough. Especially since he is now engaged to the gorgeous new lawyer at the firm. She is in line for a promotion, something she has been working her whole career for, the next step in her grand plan, only she needs a significant other. When the position is dangled in from of her she snaps and say she has a boyfriend. Only she doesn't. Not really.
Dominic is super sweet. Hot, nice, charming, everything you could want in a guy. He works for his father's construction business, but his real passion is restoration. He was going to school for architecture, but when his family needed him he dropped everything to be there for them. Only in doing so he lost his girlfriend as that was not the life she has envisioned. It put him off women a bit, but when he meets Kate there is a small spark. She is so straight laced and he thinks what would it be like to get her to loosen up a little bit?
When Kate needs some renovation work done, Dominic is her guy. Things just fall into place and when he finds out she needs a boyfriend for her firm events they figure out this will be perfect! He needs someone to help his sister with a messy divorce, but the sister won't take handouts. Only if Kate pretends to be his girlfriend then offer her legal services maybe she will take it and everyone wins. Dominic's sister gets help, Kate gets her promotion, everything should be wonderful.
Of course through all of this pretend dating they really fall for each other. Kate always thought she wanted her ex back, but now that things are heating up with Dominic does she really want that? Plus when things at work get a bit tricky she has some big decisions to make. These two were really cute together. They have some ups and downs, but it was a light, fun read.

This book had a very clear "traditional family values" agenda it pushes so hard, I could practically see steam coming off the text. Since it was my trial of a new to me author, I decided to finish it despite my disgust at the blatantly manipulated narrative.
The writing wasn't bad, but it has gotten repetitive as the story progressed and the author kept hammering the same points in over and over again.
What always amuses me in such books is that the behavior of the "corporate elite" that the narrative sets out to wholeheartedly condemn is exactly the same as the much approved behavior of the male lead (only applied in the personal relationship setting instead of the workplace) — same manipulative promises, same implicit ultimatums, same power playing and dominance assertions. Only the vilified characters do it in the name of business and money and the protagonist does it in the name of "love" and future babies, which is supposed to make it all excusable and "completely different". While the truth, of course, is that the goal and the motives don't matter in the least when such behaviors are on display — the person is either capable and willing to treat others that way or not, and anyone who chooses to behave like that is not worth even a second glance.
This book's narrative is not just problematic, it's toxic and contributes to perpetuation of abuse and unhappiness through the generations.
