I will read anything Rene writes. She has definitely become an auto-buy author for me because every time I finish one of her books I sit hugging it with a smile on my face

3.5 stars. Totally not the type of book I would normally read but someone must have recommended this one. True[ish?] crime but also has quite a lot of astute and relevant social/psychological commentary. Also set in the hellscape of Portland.

How happy was I to find that there was book 2 after ripping through book 1, the Child Finder. You know that feeling when you finish a book and want more more more? Then you google away find out there IS a second in print and you run out to your LOCALINDEPENDENT book store and there it is??? Quicker then Amazon baby. And you cannot get wait to get home to continue the story of these characters with whom have become so enamored. This author is brilliant, she knows of what she writes as a foster mom, a public defender, she knows of childhood trauma, street kids and injustice. Read these books.

Why has the publishing world been sleeping on Rene Denfeld? Her books are way better than Ruth Ware’s imo. Another 5-star!
