This book wasn't what I expected but I still found it enjoyable. It's been a while since I read this (I'm so bad at saying I'll review later and never doing it, or forgetting to come back and share links!) so I don't recall much but I do remember not wanting to put this down. I just love books set on islands and the like, especially for mysteries! You know the suspect has to be THERE! Overall this was intriguing and while Sophie McKenzie doesn't write exactly how I anticipated (more juvenile than I had hoped) I still enjoy her books and anything that keeps me entertained is good in my book (pun intended)

When Evie finds out she is entitled to a large sum of inheritance, her whole world turns upside down while she finds out the shocking truth about it all. As her family lied to her Evie finds herself at Lightsea an institute for troubled teens where she meets the gorgeous Kit. Rumour has it that Lightsea is haunted and Evie believes that a strange presence is following her. As Evie is drawn into the islands mysteries and realises that it is not just the past, or the dead that she has to fear but who she trusts as well.

Sophie McKenzie is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I awarded this book five stars as I was hooked from the first chapter and really enjoyed it! It is easy to read and very fast paced. I found myself racing through the last part of the book and there are a few twists and turns for the reader to endure too. It is a well written and clever story that I would recommend to you all. This is the perfect story for readers who enjoy mystery, young adult and contemporary. Enjoy, I loved it!

This is a great book if you want an easy read, but it's not exactly thrilling.

No time is spent on characters' backstories or personalities, and they all come across empty and boring.  The relationships and love triangles seem forced, especially as they only knew each other a couple of days.

The plot reveal felt rushed with irrelevant scenes going on for a while.

This is the only Sophie McKenzie book I've read so far that I haven't loved.

I had not read any books from Sophie McKenzie before but from the synopsis I read I was very interested in reading it. I was hooked from the first chapter. I liked Evie and can understand the hurt she felt when she learnt that basically her whole life was a lie, but there was so many emotions in this, anger was a huge part played against her parents for not telling her. But she felt that her uncle may just be the one to help her get through this. That is until she is sent to Lightsea.

The friendships she makes at Lightsea are what she needs although life is never simple and she ends up as part of a love triangle.

As soon as she arrives at Lightsea she starts seeing her real mum as a ghost, or so she thinks anyway. But why do people think she is actually going crazy.

I am so glad she had real friends she could rely on as this book had so many twists and nasty turns it was gripping. There was also a shock near the end, I really didn’t see it coming either.

This was a fantastic book and very well written, I am so glad I had the opportunity to read the book and now I want to read more from this author.

I felt like this book was very rushed in places, especially at the beginning and the end. Also, the amount of immature dialogue throughout the book was really annoying as well as repetitive. I wasn’t really a big fan of the characters, they weren’t really interesting and didn’t have much about them. However, there were some twists to the book which I enjoyed, but that was about it really.

Not a huge fan of this one. The story to be honest was ok, it kept you going but all in all wasn't that believable.

Someone in the comments left a review calling the character "empty" and I agree. The whole thing takes place over the space of 3 maybe 4 days. You could see holes in the whole thing straight away but I put it down to it was a YA book and Im, well.... a full sized, if you like, adult.

Although the story had merit, it would have been just as good, if not better better without the love triangle, and the hot head boyfrind who comes across as stupid. I honestly thought to myself noone I knew or know at 15 would throw themselves in the space of 2 hours at some guy and I hope to god my daughter wouldn't either. See what I mean when I say believable?

Im more disappointed in the fact I was sucked in by the garb on the back, then got to the end and thought 'Meh'

I gave 3 stars because I thought it had merit and could have went places. It would have got 4 if it had been drawn out on a longer timeframe and there was no love triangle. I really want to give it 2 stars just for that but that would be mean.

Try it for yourself, but dont say you werent warned.
