The dogs indeed die. The last third of the story switches pace, tense & perspectives. It ruined an initially compellingly strange book.

On a second read boosting my rating by two stars. I think I finally found myself in a place where I can appreciate it, its narrative beauty and its femaleness and feminism. Also I had forgotten the romance and by golly, it was quite good.
