I read this as an ebook from my library and it was captivating. Lost steam in the last 10%. Maybe too rushed or maybe just too underwhelming of a conclusion for a memoir that presented such big thoughts and questions for the other 90%. 4.75/5 ⭐️

Hsu writes in his acknowledgments that this is a story about being a good friend; I'd broaden it only to say that it seems to me being a good friend is being a good person and so this is really a story about figuring out how (and what it means) to be both. It is a masterclass in pace—slow to start and then it rapidly accelerates, mirroring the building of a friendship—as well as translating memory to the page. It is a special book that you finish, and you immediately want to read it again.
