While parts of this were good (commentary on individualism, what’s its like to be young, the feeling of college, long distance families, etc.), I felt like this book bit off more than it could chew. The strong emphasis on philosophy and music felt misplaced based on the back. I was expecting an exploration of grief but found a story of a million different half baked pieces. Perhaps this is a fault of my expectations and the description on the back but I was expecting a different story.

A grower. The philosophizing and cooler-than-thou attitude in the beginning was mostly obnoxious to me, but about halfway through, it all started to make sense. The way the author wrote about grief was devastating but also just beautiful and admirable.

This book makes me wish that I had a cool friend group in college and that I had been more involved and ambitious, but also to hold close the friends and experiences that I do have.

There are so many lines I wrote down and wanted to memorize from this book that I felt captured being a young adult, discovering life, and experiencing loss. This book was so consistently wonderful. An example of writing by someone who has great command of words and putting emotions on the page. I loved the audiobook so much, I went out and bought the hard copy. Highly recommend.
