Mixed feelings on this one.
I really appreciated the plot twists.
But the story itself was just... Meh...

We get a bit lost on the timeline as no dates are mentioned or anything, you can start a new chapter and it's the same day as the previous chapter, or you can change days during the same chapter.
There was barely any mention of a sister until around page 90... Which was weird considering the book title.

My first time reading Shalini Boland and now I need to read all of her previous books! This one centres around 2 estranged sisters. From the first page I was hooked and the suspense just kept building. Just when I thought I had the mystery of who was sending the letters solved, Shalini throws in one curveball of a plot twist.. Thanks to #netgalley #shaliniboland for giving me the opportunity to review this book

One of the most alarming things in Shalini Boland’s THE SILENT SISTER is that Lizzie Beresford, the ordinary everyday person like most of us, starts receiving threatening letters for no apparent reason. If it can happen to her, why can’t it happen to us?

Told from Lizzie’s point of view, we are as clueless as she is. Being on edge, and nervous, makes Lizzie begin question everyone around her; her partner, her colleagues, her family, her boss. If she digs far enough can she discover what happened, or is she just clutching at straws?

I enjoyed the book. As with most books like this, I am rubbish at connecting the dots, so I tend to go along for the ride. The story was engaging but not too taxing. I really enjoyed the twist at the end, because, yes, once again I did not see it coming.

I look forward to the author's next book.

The mighty Bookouture do it again! Boy oh boy did I enjoy this! What a fricking marvellous psychological thriller from the masterful Shalini Boland. I have read a couple of her others and loved them as much as this one. I'm actually glad to have just discovered that there are more books in her back catalogue so I can binge on her books when I get the first chance.

In each of the books I have read by Bolind, she masterfully grabs you and pulls you in to the story. Once you're in her grasp there's no hope of sleep until dawn. Don't fight it, it's no use!

"The Silent Sister" begins with Lizzy Beresford receiving and reading a note that states: "You're my only obsession." But who sent it? Lizzy's initial thought is that it's from her estranged sister, Emma. Both her boyfriends, Joe, and her friend and co-worker, Pippa, are very concerned that Lizzy is being stalked. Then another letter arrives: "Dearest Lizzy, I love to watch you." This prompts Lizzy to get the police involved in an effort to get to the truth of the matter. She no longer trusts anyone anymore, even those she has been close to for many years and she starts to suspect everyone.

You really feel for Lizzy as a character as her fear turns into paranoia. This is a tautly plotted tense read with a lot of secrets throughout, the writing is easy to read and follow. There are twists aplenty and there are a number of possible suspects making it difficult to predict who the culprit actually is. I loved the ending too.

Overall, this is an outstanding novel. Highly recommended. If you enjoy psychological thrillers you'll have a hard time putting this one down!

Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
