I had the same issue with this book a I did the last one, the ending was weak. Unique beginning, liked how it was on the same timeline as the 1st book, so we had glimpses from a different perspective into this relationship (not necessary at all to read the 1st book, but its a bonus to this story if you will). Kind of refreshing to have a MMC and FMC with no red flags (even if they are technically related which should be a huge red flag...)

DNF…
Been trying to read this for over a week and I just couldn’t take it anymore. Made it to 50% and then read the ending which made me even more glad to not have continued.

Everything needed more work here, the magic system, the world, the fucking characters.

You could 100% go into book 2 without reading the first since everything you learned here is then undone by the ending 🤷🏽‍♀️ especially because this was a single POV, the twist doesn’t really work well.

The fact that Brynn/Jovie kept thinking about Kai was enough for me to doubt her character and I was fucking right. I didn’t know the twist at the end but I didn’t like her at all.

I only felt bad for Acker because if there was a victim here, it was him, not anyone else and I wish he would end up with someone else but we all know how the story will end.

Book 2 will either have Brynn/Jovie reason her betrayal to “protect” Acker or will have her manipulate him enough (because he’s in love with her) to join her side and either way they will end up together.
