I was in the exact right mood for this. A degenerate mood because wow was this messed up. They're adopted cousins. Let's get that out of the way. They were raised as cousins. And I looked up
Nevada law and you can be charged with a felony for marrying your cousin so is their marriage even valid? Who knows?

I think what I enjoyed most about the forbidden nature of the relationship was that they both found out at the same time. They were anonymously seeing each other at a sex club and when Penny alludes to Lincoln's pseudonym, they both freak out. Well, Lincoln freaks out less. I don't think I would've liked it if one found out earlier than the other and then continued to have sex with their cousin.

I felt the angst, the confusion, the incredulity that Penny and Linc both went through. I didn't mind the time skips to fit the timeline of the previous book which is normally something I hate. But here, if they didn't speak for a month, I was like, I get it. You're a cousin fucker. It's a lot to overcome. You're allowed some space.
That familiarity led them both to open up to each other in a way they hadn't in previous relationships. They still weren't that close before, but by being around each other for so long, there was some sense of understanding of who they were. Penny always changed herself to fit her new partner and Lincoln just never opened up emotionally. He had never said I love you to anyone. Not even his girlfriend of two years who ended up being married with children the whole time.
I liked Linc's brothers reactions. Gavin cracked me up. I'm sure Ben would too but Gavin had like 90% of the dialogue in scenes with both of them in it. All of them were initially like, "what the fuck are you doing, weirdos?" which-valid. But then they would say it makes sense, as long as you're happy.

Penny (29) and Lincoln (36)
Sex club, forbidden, adopted cousins, grumpy/sunshine, he falls first.
This is what I came for. I read a good review for this book but decided to read book one first just for funsies. Both books have the same timeline- and I would probably skip book 1 tbh.
Penny and Lincoln- does this make you think of an actual Penny with Abraham Lincoln on it. Kinda weird name pairing.
Anyways, they’re both having an existential crisis. I would still say the writing isn’t great and it didn’t seem to flow super well. One minute he’s grumpy and saying he doesn’t want her and the next he’s saying I love you, will you marry me.
10 spicy scenes with glory holes and consensual nonconsent. 3.5🔥 During one of the glory hole scenes, there’s a QR code to see a very NSFW drawing of what the scene looks like. That was a fun and interesting surprise. (It’s at the end of Chapter 12 if you wanted to get right to it)

I hope the twins get their own book, I expect all the sharing! Two of the best quotes in the book came from them:
“Your Alabama secret is safe with me.”
And when asked about which girl they are going to pick up at the bar-
“Whichever one wants to go to Paris” (because the twins are going to Eiffel Tower her😂)

What a great addition to the series! I can honestly say that I had no idea what I was in for coming into this book, but I’m so glad for that. It was emotional, funny, spicy, and sweet. I absolutely adore Lincoln and penny!

P.S.

I've been waiting for this book since I ARC read Swallow Your Pride last year. And dear lord was it worth the wait. I loved the first book in the Carlson Brothers series, but that way I was screaming every time L ME THOSE COUSINS Penny & Linc were together "PLEASE TELARE FVCKING" was such a sure-fire sign that this book was gonna consume me.

This book was as dirty as it was wholesome. Two "strangers" on opposite sides of a glory hole with undeniable chemistry realize they're not strangers at all, but in fact cousins. I came for the smut but I stayed for the incredibly relatable depiction of feeling deeply alone while surrounded by people. "Do you ever feel like you don't know who you are?"

Penny is a twenty-something year old, people pleaser, who feels like an outsider in her adoptive family, worried she's not worthy of their love, and terrified that she'll never be able to build a life for herself. Linc is a brooding, workaholic in his thirties, who's been pushing away his family to keep them from seeing his own perceived failures.

Maybe I'm not the only fucked-up one in the family after all, and it's wrong, but it's nice to find solace in someone else's pain.

I loved the push and pull of their dynamic, as they tried to figure out how much they were willing to give up for the chance to be together. Linc learned how to show up for Penny in their relationship, and she finally felt comfortable enough to let go of the fake sunshine facade she'd been holding onto to keep everyone around her happy.

"You're Penelope Abigail Myers, the most gorgeous, selfless, funniest woman I know... You're strong, stronger than anyone gives you credit for, and you're the best fuck of my life."

Lincoln has chosen me repeatedly and all he's asked for is the same in return.

Oh and did I mention the spice was DELICIOUS.

Where do I even start with this review? I can say I am 100% certain I have never read a story like Forget Your Morals before. It is a forbidden love story where their love might be forbidden morally, legally it is not.

Lincoln and Penny were brought up as part of a tight nit family. Penny was adopted by her parents at the age of two while Lincoln is the biological child of Penny’s adoptive mother’s sister. So, they are cousins who never looked at each other in a romantic light. Lincoln is not one for relationships since his last one imploded four years earlier. Penny seems to jump from one loser to the next, not knowing who she really is or wants to be without a guy at her side. It takes her latest boyfriend slapping her across the face to make her realize she needs to reevaluate her life. This leads Penny to take charge of what she wants in her day-to-day life as well as her sexual fantasies no-one has been willing to try with her.

Club Avalon has just started a new program where Penny could have a completely anonymous sexual encounter. The participants agree upon terms through an online portal and the club takes care of the rest. Her first encounter goes so well, she agrees to another. She wonders about her unnamed partner and takes a chance to find him at a masquerade party held at the public area of Club Avalon. She does meet him, but is shocked to learn the man she’d been with was Lincoln. Since they aren’t biologically related, it isn’t really wrong, but there are implications that could be detrimental to their family if they continue. While Penny is more hesitant than Lincoln, they can’t stay away from each other for long.

There are so many ways that both of these characters grow over the course of the story. Lincoln learns how to release his past relationship and become a more pleasant version of himself. You might say while this is a forbidden romance, it could also be a grumpy/sunshine story. Penny presents herself as a sunshine character, but in reality she’s that way around people so she doesn’t have to find her true self. After her encounters with Lincoln, she chooses to go back to therapy while also looking for her biological parents. She knows she has abandonment issues since she feels she wasn’t wanted after spending over a year in the care of her biological parents. The fact that she and Lincoln were raised as cousins leads her to believe if they reveal themselves to the family, they will choose Lincoln over her. At the time, she is working for Lincoln’s older brother, Aiden, and has no friends her own age. Her fear of being totally alone is what holds her back from revealing her relationship with Lincoln.

I can sympathize with Penny on many points. Not knowing where you want to go in life, not having friends to lean on, and not feeling a part of your family are heavy burdens to carry while still maintaining a happy facade. While Penny stumbles and struggles to bring the pieces of herself together, Lincoln is right by her side cheering her on. I love how Blue takes her characters from the simple grump and sunshine and layers them with such complex personalities. Nothing is just skin deep when it comes to Penny and Lincoln. They both go through an enormous metamorphosis as they learn to love each other and hope others will see past who they are related to. Blue takes these two characters on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but bring us a rocky road to acceptance.

One thing that might be strange for the reader is that this book takes place parallel to the first book in the series, Swallow Your Pride, Jessa and Aidan’s story. It is nice to see a little of their story peeking around the edges of the developing love story of Lincoln and Penny. There are still the twins, Gavin and Ben, left in the Carlson clan. I’m excited to see what Sarah Blue has in store for these goofball brothers as the series continues.

I received Forget Your Morals for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

dark inspiring

Honestly a good read I read it like molasses but it still hit and I finished it a win for the republic that is me 😌  . Jk as I am still gonna be 2 behind in my reading goal .but HEY IM A READER

This book!!! Lincoln Carlson is 🤤 perfection. I loved how the story came around and penny had to go through so much to come out the other side and finally love her self enough to go after what she wanted not just in life but in love as well. I loved seeing little points from Aiden and Jessa in here as well. Linc never gave up on Penny and I was talking to my kindle trying to get penny to hurry up 😂

4🌶️  (everyone’s spice level is different and everyone enjoys reading different things and that’s totally okay)

If you love a good tabooish (adopted cousin) book and some great spicy scenes this is the book for you! Sarah never disappoints with her writing and I’m loving reading about the brothers and need more!
