4.5 Stars!

Not surprisingly, I don’t have much else to say or add to the multitudes of reviews loving this book hard except that I concur! This is full of adventure and so much snark that the genius of Klune consistently shines through!

Sam is still Sam. Kinda oblivious, definitely talkative, one who finds himself in all the crazy situations one can dream of and then some, but when push comes to shove, he is a man of honor and goodness.

Right by his side is the ever faithful Gary, Tiggy (I love him so hard!!), and Kevin who take sadistic glee in calling Sam on his shit!

Ryan is dreamy as ever, and I reveled in his jealous claiming (or being claimed as it were) whenever the need called for it.

Was this a little long winded? Yeah.
Over the top? Sure.
Absolutely ridiculous and shameless? Of course!!

Funny as all get out! Omg yes!!

However, throughout all the zany shenanigans this still had heart at its core. The power of friends, family, and love, fuel Sam’s desire to do what is right and he is one BAMF!

This was made all that much better by the amazing fantastic narration from Michael Lesley who brings these unforgettable characters to life! I can’t sing his praises enough!

Though I’m nervous and anxious as hell for what’s to come, I know it will be fabulous regardless!!

Another hilarious and heartwarming book in the Verania series from TJ Klune !

A Destiny of Dragons lives up to the standards set by The Lightning-Struck Heart and throws us headfirst in the new adventure of Sam of Wilds, his dorky knight/boyfriend Ryan Foxheart, the hornless sassy unicorn Gary, the half-giant Tiggy and the sex-obsessed dragon Kevin.

TJ Klune is once again using and mocking tropes in the most hilarious way: This time we see the mysterious lost relative who uproots the life of the protagonist, and a "fated" third person threatening to sour the relationship of the main couple, as well as prophecies and dreams planting the seed of "what if he's safer without me" doubt on his mind.

And Klune says nope, not in my story. In most books you'd see the characters make the predictable "noble" choices which would temporarily cause schisms in their relationships and fuel the plot for at least a book. But not here. Sam is having none of it, his world is RyanRyanRyan and no gypsy queen, star dragon or evil shadow wizard will stop him.

The absurd comedic element is here of course, and once I again I will praise TJ Klune for not shying away from joking about anything he wants, including words and topics that would be taboo to joke for most authors.

The teenage emo dragon is the addition I didn't know I needed, and I hope we'll get to see more of Zero in the next books!

I gave book one four stars and was very excited to read more of these hilarious himbos and their quirky, irreverent, fantastical adventures. Instead, I found this installment to be an absolute slog. I hated how every adult with power was gaslighting and/or manipulating Sam and I hated that not communicating is being built up as a major plot point.

I also disliked that every scene is interrupted with one of two of the exact same jokes (either butt sex or The Power of BFFs). I disliked that we're being given an "high-stakes" plot but it's incredibly bare-bones and artificially stretched over four books. I disliked how generic our bad guy is, and how bland the efforts to give him "depth" are. I found a number of the jokes to have gone one step too far, which has a knock-on effect of making me question if I'm just being a prissy goody-two shoes, but no, some of these jokes just went TOO FAR. I disliked basically all of the secondary plotlines (Myrin's backstory, the bickering with Morgan, the whole thing with Lady Tina), and while I'm at it I dislike the primary plotline as well (find the dragons, save the world!).

I'm just so frustrated. Maybe I'm remembering book one with rose-tinted glasses, but I was looking forward to a light-hearted romp through the fantasy castle and/or countryside as our rag-tag group of friends fell into adventures in the pursuit of Gary's horn or a new boyfriend for Justin or something similarly silly.

Instead, this was just a tonally conflicted, overwrought "epic" fantasy plot that has no concept of economy of words or clear direction.

The continuation of Sam & the gang’s epic adventures. So many laughs & feels, new characters to enjoy. I’ve lost count of the number or rereads this was. Still love!

Reading this book makes any bad day great. I love laughing and genuinely enjoying the crazy banter.
I can't wait to hear the audiobook version. Its like waiting for a movie but I know the movie won't be a cheap Hollywood knock off

Oh book #2. I am loving the way these books are starting to play out. TJ has a way of adding these things to the story that you might not have thought anything about but later it's something that is a bigger part of the story than you thought. Foreshadowing of sorts, but man he is good at it.

There are a few moments of What in the actual Fudgesicle is happening! But the biggest thing that I love is that the tenacity of the main character and how, even though he should listen to those around him, he knows in his heart of hearts where and what he should be doing. Always follow your heart.

Great book in this ongoing saga. Already have book 3 ready to go.

You know what?
I had enough.
Fuck this bitch.

- “The Dark Woods stand as they always have, swallowing the heart of Verania in gnarled roots that dig deep into the earth.
- “Couldn’t she have just said there was a big fat forest in the middle of everything?

Tiggy, will I find love that makes other people want to vomit and punch me in the spleen?

- “The name of the castle has been lost in time. But the gypsy people call it Prikasa.
- “What does that mean?
- “Bad luck. A dark omen.
- “Of course that’s what it means. Because you guys suck.

Sam, Ryan, Gary, Twiggy e Kevin sono #SQUADGOAL comunque.
