Didn't have this much fun reading a book in ages. Had me legit laughing out loud.

Dont judge it by the cover. This baby has it all! Plot and 'plot'

If you enjoy reading books with guys arguing for 90% of the novel, this one’s for you. Characters are hardly believable due to the of lack of personality descriptors and context of the characters. The book jumps from scenes and points of views in a way that leaves you confused and trying to constantly figure out what’s going on. I was hoping I would love this book, but left disappointed.

This is my first book by Kristy Cunning and it's a bit of a mixed bag for me.

Violet has gypsy blood from a long line of powerful gypsies but she knows nothing about her history or how it is entwined with all the other monsters/shapeshifters in the world. Her mother has kept her ignorant and taught her to keep her origins secret. This is fine until her mother dies and leaves Violet her house in a town that is ruled by 4 Houses, each with their own monster Alpha. She moves to the town hoping to find answers about who killed her mother while also keeping her biggest secret under wraps. The Alphas have other ideas.

I love an unraveling of a good mystery and it also helps to have a wise-cracking ghost side-kick but honestly, I felt confused for most of this book. The mystery of Violet's mother's death was hardly touched on and more secrets were thrown into the mix with the introduction of the 4 alphas. They have their own agendas and every time Violet asked a question, they would just brush it aside. What irritated me is that she let them and carried on whatever path of conversation they decided on. For someone who wanted answers, she didn't press very hard.
She is supposed to be the main character but I felt that the men stole the show in this book and she just stumbled around from one situation to the next.
I am also hesitant to call this a romance or even a reverse harem. Yes, there are 4 men and one woman but very little happens in this book in the romance department. I guess with 6 books in the series, it is going to be a slow build.

I wasn't sure if I would continue with the series but by the end of the first book (and the set up of the world and the characters), I thought that maybe the second book would move along a bit faster and more will be revealed. Here is hoping.

Book 1: I’m obsessed! Not really any spice yet, but the PERFECT set up to the rest of the series

This is one of the best things I’ve read in a long while. Like holy karp it is great. It starts off a bit confusing and slow in the beginning, but by the end I could not put it down. I’m going to go read the next book now, tootles.
