This was relatively interesting speculative “horror” fiction. Nothing was insanely original or stayed in my head past reading it, but it was overall solid.

Short story collections always land at average for me. I loved a few, liked a lot, didn't like a few. My main issue is that short stories never go far enough (which I realize is due to the length). I found myself wishing I could read a full novel about some of the story lines.

all these stories are so fun and creative and imaginative!!! all sort of centered around minor everyday fears and childhood fears and adding these dark elements. think like creepy dolls, getting older, the aftermath of influencers dying, living through an eco disaster... TRULY lesser known monsters of the 21st century

favorites: june bug, the doll, liddy first to fly, pre-simulation consultation, do you remember candy

These stories are quirky, odd, sometimes jarring--but always somehow relatable. Several times I paused over a sentence, re-read it, wanting to absorb the beauty and simplicity of the perspective. Kim Fu understands human nature, what drives people forward and pulls them back. Each short story is imaginative and immersive, a worthwhile read that made me itch to delve back into short stories (both reading and writing them) and made me pay more attention to the life that spools out around me constantly, quietly, and so often goes unnoticed.
