I feel bad giving this 3 stars, but I had a hard time reading this.
I thought the heroine Fawn was beautifully written, but she had so much trauma that wasn't effectively dealt with.
The power imbalance between her and Clay just read so wrong. Her calling him "Sir" vs. Clay felt so wrong too given her past.
There is nothing wrong with wishing to be taken care of, Fawn deserves that. But the "Sir" and dom aspects felt kind of abusive given her trauma. Especially b/c she would call him that outside of just in the bedroom.
I do like that she asked for what she wanted.
Clay should have led the divorce though but at least he agreed to it right away.

Easily one of my top Dom/Sub age gap romances! I have gone back to reread so many times! I actually read this and the follow-up (His Pretty Little Queen) before the earlier books in the series and they ended up being the favorites from the series for me! I did have to use some context clues and assume some things since I didn’t read the first three books before this duet but I’m a mood reader who picks up books based of blurbs/tropes that interest me in the moment, so I’m used to that.
The dynamic between Clay and Fawn is captivating and I was enthralled reading as you see Clay slowly realize just truly how in love he is; even as he continues to show little emotion and remain in control and stoic. Fawn’s quick to love and bubbly personality against his is a great combo in my opinion! It's not so much grumpy x sunshine, but emotionless x sunshine.
While I know a lot of readers will see Clay as too emotionless; I saw in his actions and reactions how he loved Fawn. Their natural Dom/Sub relationship was really intriguing to me. Clay fully took control of Fawn’s happiness, calmness, and desires and she was grateful for it as a young girl who never felt loved, wanted, or safe in her life.
Fawn goes through hell again and again but watching her find her voice and her strength in the second duet was great!

I loved this book. I cried, I laughed, and several times I was angry. The characters were so strong and vulnerable at the same time without being weak. The relationship between Clay and Fawn melted my heart! This book is dark and heartwrenching. It is not for the weak (or strong in some parts). However, the ending made me excited to read the next book and that’s what made it a 5 star read for me. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and this is technically book 4 in the series but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything.
