I did enjoy this volume as it is now finally reaching the head of the past. The story is a little heart wrenching in this volume, starting out hopeful and ending on a more grim note. I will say that there are some scenes I was not expecting to be drawn out. Understanding that this is a dark fantasy manga, I would be weary entering this and not expecting some disturbing scenes (EX: the sexual assault and torture), though it was a bit unsettling for me seeing these parts. Beyond that however, the artwork is impeccable as always the story is gripping. I am enjoying everyone’s character development and more of the side characters get their spotlight moment it seemed (Judeau is one of my favorites). It is very hard to put these down, but I have to read these slowly or else I would finish them way too quickly. I would definitely recommend these but would give fair warning in doing so. I would skip over pages 257 - 263 and 356 -360 in this volume for anyone who wants to read but skip over some of the more “difficult” pages with Wyald. Won’t miss a whole lot by skipping them as far as I could tell. I hope this review helps someone!

Why do I always see these things after they’re done and gone?
Some of the best fantasy I’ve ever read. Guts, Casca and Griffith’s intertwining relationship is some of the best writing I’ve come across in my life. It makes me dizzy, realizing that someone as talented as Miura shared a bit of their genius with us. How these volumes* keep getting better is…such a feat.
*I’m reading the individual volumes, but using the Deluxe Editions to log on SG, as to not inflate my reading count any higher (Not that these aren’t books, they’re some of the best literature out there.) Just more efficient this way.

I've read this book three times. With some comics and manga I skip a few pages on rereads, but I found myself unable to skip a single page for the sheer artistry of Miura's panels. Riveting, and to-the-bone raw (and a HUGE tw for sexual assault and capital torture), Miura does it again.

Chapters 48-79 of ~400, Vols 10-12
Continues the Golden Age arc. Covering the rescue of Griffith from the tower (featuring Charlotte, the Kushan assassins and the Black Dog Knights), Guts fight against Wyald, Griffith's activation of the Behelit, the appearance of the God Hand and the beginning of the Eclipse.
Another strong section of Berserk, though for me Wyald is one of the weaker villains of the series - reliant only on shock value to stand out. Although in his 'final form' the monster design in the artwork shines as strongly as ever. The Kushan assassins are also kind of underwhelming here.
After the escape however, this is a great section of character exploration for Griffith, as we see how he rejects the possibility of a peaceful live with Guts and Casca as he cannot stand to be the weakest of the three. I personally feel that this is the section that really betrays the internal weakness and ugliness behind Griffith's facade of control and enlightment.
As the eclipse starts, the artwork of the Void and the Apostles is just... horrifically, awfully, beautiful. I truly think this and the next section of Berserk include some of the best horror artwork I've ever seen in any genre, let alone in manga. Just wow.

Felt more or less the same about these three volumes as the last three. It was exciting to see Guts and Casca's relationship develop and to finally reach a few more pivotal plot moments with the Behelit stuff — I just still don't really care yet for some reason. I'm not emotionally attached to much of the world. I do like this enough to keep reading though. Hopefully it'll grow on me.
