Regretting You

Colleen Hoover

4.03 AVERAGE

challenging emotional fast-paced

*Regretting You* shattered me in the best way.

This book dives deep into the complicated relationship between a mother and daughter grieving the same man but in very different ways. What hit me the hardest was watching Clara grow distant from Morgan, blaming her for everything, while Morgan silently carries the truth like a weight on her shoulders. She could defend herself, she *wants* to—but she chooses to protect her daughter’s memory of her father, even if it means being hated.

That kind of sacrifice gutted me.

When Clara finally learns the truth about her father and her aunt—it’s like the fog lifts. She realizes she was harsher toward her mother for kissing Jonah than she was toward her father, even though his betrayal was much deeper. And what made it even more emotional was her realization that her mom had *always* been there for her, taking the blame so she wouldn't have to see her dad in a different light. Deep down, she knows that if the roles were reversed, her father wouldn’t have done the same.

Colleen Hoover did an incredible job showing how love, grief, and betrayal can tear people apart—and yet somehow bring them back together. But beyond the pain and tension, she also wrote two of the sweetest romances I’ve read in a while.

Jonah, the uncle, and Morgan’s love was quiet but powerful. I loved that they were there for each other in the aftermath of everything, the only two who really knew the truth. Even after Jonah finds out that his son isn’t biologically his, he still comes back because *love*—because being a father is more than DNA. That alone speaks volumes about his character.

And Miller. His relationship with Clara was everything. Sweet, awkward, loyal, real. Even when Clara pushed him away or used him to act out, he always came back. When she said, “I’m a mess,” and he still joked about her being a 9 for liking pineapple on pizza—I melted. And that video he made for her? So pure. Finding out he had liked her from way back, even naming his truck after one of her stage characters, made it all even more heartwarming.

Both male characters were kind, patient, and loving in the middle of all the chaos—and both Morgan and Clara were able to lean on them while navigating their grief.

It’s not just a story about heartbreak. It’s about love in all its forms—messy, painful, unconditional—and how it can pull us through even the darkest moments.

I didn’t really gel with this one. This was my last CoHo book to read, I’ve have read every single one of her others and have mostly loved them all, but I just didn’t really vibe with this.

I didn’t really feel any connection with any of the characters. I felt they were all quite shallow and I couldn’t stand Clara and Morgan’s relationship, I just hated how they were with each other.

I also HATE when a book could be solved in half the amount of pages if characters just communicated with each other. Sometimes the miscommunication trope can be fun, but sometimes it can be really overused, like in this case, and just makes the storyline irritating.

Despite this, I didn’t mind the very last chapter and thought it was a nice ending, but I think the middle of the book let most of this novel down.

A beauty

3.5 stars. Your typical CoHo, just didn’t really grab onto any of the characters like I normally do.

I absolutely can't stand the miscommunication trope. This could have been resolved hundreds of pages sooner if the characters were just honest with each other. This was a very frustrating book to read and if it weren't for the audible version being included with the kindle unlimited ebook I would have DNF’ed this one.

Enjoyed this book, however I need to have a second book. Want to know how all the relationships are progressing! I want to see so much! Another good book by Colleen Hoover!
