This is my second time reading this series. I really enjoy it and I'm not into the whole vampire scene. The writing is smooth and the story is pretty great! I have to remind myself very now and them that this is a teen series, but it doesn't feel dumbed down like many others.

Marked is the first book in the House of Night series that will eventually hold twelve books. Zoey is Marked when she's at school one day, after the Tracker Marked her. She has to get to the House of Night before it kills her. She enters the House of Night and she immediately stands out with her filled in Mark.

I've heard from this series a couple of months ago and finally managed to pick up a boxed set for $ 18 during a sale. I thought that the story wouldn't contribute much to all the vampire books out there, but I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed myself while reading it.

What I like about the vampyres in this book is that they found a way to get rid of almost all the clichés that are out there about vampires. The House of Night reminded me of Hogwarts, but for vampires. I really enjoyed myself while reading it, even though the writing wasn't that great at some points. It was easy to read and easy to relate to Zoey. Even though the book is written from her point of view, you can still find out things for her, before she even thinks about it.

My overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Because I really liked it! I'm glad I have the three books that follow this book, so I can pick it up any time I want - and I think it's going to be real soon.

So instead of writing about what I personally think of the book, I'm just going to post some quotes and you can see for yourself how bitter and hateful this book is to everything that walks on two legs. Don't worry. There isn't any spoilers and remember, these are word-for-word excerpts.

1. "It was incredibly weird to look down on myself. I wasn't scared. But I should be, shouldn't I? Didn't this mean I was dead? Maybe I'd be able to see the Cherokee ghosts better now. Even that thought didn't scare me. Actually, instead of being afraid it was more like I was an observer, as if none of this could really touch me. (Kinda like those girls who have sex with everyone and think that they're not going to get pregnant or a really nasty STD that eats your brains and stuff. Well, we'll see in ten years, won't we?)"

2. "She wasn't thin like the freak girls who puked and starved themselves into what they thought was Paris Hilton chic. This woman's body was perfect because she was strong, but curvy. And she had great boobs."

3. "Of course there are girls who think it's "cool" to give guys head. Uh, they're wrong. Those of us with functioning brains know that it is not cool to be used like that."
*On a side note, I'd like to say oral is moral.

4."It was that annoying Elliott kid! Very, very odd that he was here. What could the Dark Daughters and Sons want with him? I looked around the room again. Yep, as I'd expected, there wasn't one ugly, dorky-looking kid present. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, except Elliott was attractive. He definitely didn't belong."

These next few quotes aren't necessarily horrible, but is an example of how she describes nearly every character in the series.

5. "Actually, she reminded me of a young version of Sarah Jessica Parker..."

6. "Aphrodite's laugh, followed by her perky, 'Of course I'd be happy to show her around! You know I'm always glad to help you, Neferet,' was as fake and cold as Pamela Anderson's humongously huge boobs..."

7. "Do not make me cut that Jessica Simpson look-alike blond hair of yours off in the middle of the night."

I don't say this lightly, but if you still choose to read this book and you still like it, you're either too young to know what a good book is or you're just as much of an asshole as Zoey Redbird.

I loved this book, the only reason why I didn’t gave it 5 stars was because I thought some things moved way to fast like erik was too into her at the beginning, there was no chase and 0 excitement about him. It was just a turn off for me. Also she was a few weeks into the school and already gained tattoos like the adult vampires, I thought it was too fast for the first book.

This is definitly one of my favorites. The events are breath-taking and at the same time reasonable for Zoey Redbird's new life. HIGHLY-RECOMENDED !

The writing is bad. So so many slurs, slut shaming, body shaming, etc. Besides her grandmother, the main character didn’t say a single positive thing about any other character. Boobie and poopie were used so many times.
