A smart, pleasant play with well-realized female characters. Keller's story is inspiring, of course, but even more so when told with that of Annie Sullivan. I would love to see this staged.

This is my first time reading this book and only because it was for reccommended summer reading. I was fairly suprised on how good and interesting it actually was. This makes me believe that maybe high school reading isn't going to be so bad. I love reading and all- I mean my whole life is reading- but reading something that is a requirement is kind of new for me. Based on this new beginning, I am really glad I was pleased in this new adventure.

I wanted something short to nibble on and because I knew a little about Hellen Keller and Annie Sullivan I decided to pick it up. I wasn't prepared for this to be so intense. Even if it's a play it's has such an intense force to it and it's very moving. I would love to see this play someday. Have started picking up plays recently but haven't really watched them in real life

Yeah, it has whole pages of stage directions. But have you seen it performed? Those parts are such a gut-punch. I do think it's hard to show how Miss Sullivan's life led her here and the flashbacks and monologues might not have been the most imaginative way to compensate, but they're such a small part of the play. Her relationship with Helen is the most compelling part and the part that sucks you right in - mutual frustration, but also hope. We read this in my play-reading group and honestly, if you read this aloud and don't find yourself tearing up...you may be made of wood.
