This set of landscape-wallowing and exceptionally rich and dark short stories is masterfully and subtly brilliant. The way Poole manipulates chronology and sparkling iconic moments makes the trivialities of life seemed lush. Hope, Fear, Disappointment, Lust, and Resolve are all placed in the confines of a rural and historical bandage that bleeds through in familiar and haunting ways.
