I did not know if this would be as good as the previous 2 volumes but I am glad to say I enjoyed this. Arthur has achieved what he wanted but as he interacts with his friends in Amnesty Bay like Erika and addresses the world, he finds out that people fear him now. Tied up in this is Warhead who seems like a villain at first but then it turns out that he is seeking our Arthur for help as he has PTSD. I found that plot line interesting because he has a human brain but is a robot as well.

The next adventure Arthur goes on is discovering what Deadwater is. He teams up with the Aquamarines who tried to assassinate him in the previous volume which does not seem like a good idea. Mera and him disagree about how they could deal with the Tethys which is a sentient underwater planet. I felt that it was a very tense and chaotic situation which was getting worst by the minute and he made a choice that on reflection, could have been done better.

But while he is dealing with surface issues, dissent is rising in Atlantis as the Council feel that he is not a suitable king as he is hardly there and always seems to be advocating for the surface. So, he gets replaced by Corum Rath. That did not make sense to me and I am pretty sure the Council will see that they made a mistake.

I did not mention this in my last two reviews but I liked how there is diversity in the people from Atlantis like Murk who has scars, Carcharador, a female who leads the Fleet army and Seneschal Kae who stutters.

The art is good to alright. Then this volume ends on a cliffhanger where Arthur is gravely injured and Atlantis closes itself off. I would definitely want to read the next volume because of the story and art by Stjepan Sejic.

This starts out strong with the villain Warhead showing up. He is able to telepathically control people and he has these people attacking Aquaman. It's great action and I think the villain is great. The next bit of story is Aquaman is asked to investigate some strange happening in the water. There are horrible monsters at this research center that are killers. Aquaman finds that it's a gate to a planet of water, a whole different world.

This is a good story. It takes up most of the book. The marine fighters who can turn into sharks are there. They are pretty odd. There is a lot of fighting and then a resolution to the plot.

Then the plot goes stupid. I think they have had Arthur fight in Atlantis for his throne 2 or 3 times already since the New 52 started. Well, they are doing it once again. This story is so overdone and boring at this point. How many times can Arthur fight for the Throne of Atlantis before he just stops. This is ridiculous. I am not looking forward to the next volume because of this. Ugh, really. I hope this story line doesn't take too many issues to resolve. I'm hating it already. That is only one issue in this volume and the rest of the story was good. I was pleased with this, but I do hope it gets better in the future and not worse and I would love a new storyline that hasn't been done to death.

This is a volume that is balancing a few different storylines and I don’t think it’s doing them very well. You have Arthur going off to fight a robot that has become human and has ptsd, fighting creatures spawned from dark water, and dealing with his kingdom.

The robot is pretty alright, the dark water/monsters were the highlight of this volume and if it was only that I’d regard it higher. The Council stuff feels like it comes out of nowhere, it doesn’t because it’s been built up in he last volume, but an issue of slower paced plotting is missing.

The art is fine but not great. It feels as though the writer wrote a script and then sent it to an artist and there was no more communication then that between the two.

Overall it’s alright but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone other than big Aquaman fans. It’s not Geoff Johns run but it has some good moments and interesting concepts.

2 stars.

I was going to say that I was getting a little tired of watching Aquaman and Mera be frustrated with politics, but I have to admit the ending won me back. Interested to see what's next.

80/100.
