Cooper asserts the necessity of education for Black women, takes on the role of the literary critic, and performs complex sociological analysis. She also avows a strong Christian faith in the spirit of revolution.
Though the text has a complicated relationship with nations like China and religions like Islam (Cooper uses harmful stereotypes in her writing), Cooper remains an intellectual titan.
